That time has begun

Mama saw back-to-school ads in the newspaper yesterday, LOL. As I've stated in the past, back-to-school time was kinda a dicey time in my family since three of us had to go back.  It was kinda sore on money; my sister and I needed notebooks and pencils and God knows what, Mama usually wanted some cute decorations for her room, and we all inevitably wanted some new clothes.  So...yeah.  I also stated in the past that this time of year could be fun, as it allowed my sister and me to see the school in a state that it normally wasn't.  Oh yeah, and hanging in Mama's room was usually fun too.  There were kiddie books galore, jigsaw puzzles, felt people, and The Oregon Trail on those old-school computers.  So it wasn't all negative. Cold case

Image
I reiterate my sentiment from earlier in the week; I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for reasons to wear a certain bow.  Today is Lizzie Borden's birthday, and National Stick Out Your Tongue Day...oh yes, Lizzie Borden.  The disembodied doll head. Lizzie Borden took an axe Gave her mother forty whacks When she saw what she had done She gave Father forty-one From what I've read Andrew and Abby Borden kinda needed someone to slap them into shape.  They were rich and thus were kinda elitist, like many rich people can be.  Lizzie and her sister Emma also suspected that Abby married their father for his money.  NO ONE in the family bothered to remember the proper name of their maid, Bridget Sullivan; their last maid was a woman named "Maggie," and the Bordens called poor Bridget "Maggie" instead.  Now...all that said, is that an excuse for murder?  Not really, no.  But Andrew and Abby ended up dead, Lizzie and Bridget were both suspected, and Lizzi...

Lies, lies, lies, yeah!

I learned that the Republican National Convention closes today, so I thought "May as well wear my most controversial bow." I usually vote red, and I intend to again this time around, but let's be real:  neither party is worth a crap, and this time around the candidates all suck.  The Donald can't keep his big mouth shut, Sleepy Joe is losing his mind, and none of the alternatives are worth the sperm and eggs it took to conceive 'em.  Sad thing is, I think Joe Biden would've done a fine job as president if he had his wits about him.  I like him.  I don't like some of his policies, but I like him.  But he's not cut out for the job anymore.  All the others do is lie to us and throw mud at each other.  We don't even hear promises to make the country better, empty as those promises may be.  It's just "Trump did this" or "Biden didn't do that," and a bunch of lies, damned lies, and statistics that may or may not be lies. Let...

I spoke too soon!

Image
Okay, I spoke too soon about July being super-dull.  Today is a family-favorite holiday, National Hot Dog Day.  Thus I get to wear my corn dog!  Etsy shop is CreationsbyCronisha , and they are currently not selling. The corn dog is no gray area, I must say!  I've gotten laughter, compliments, and a few folks that shrug and say "You do you."  Hey, as long as they're not rude I can dig whatever they say.  But I like to wear goofy stuff, and...well, wearing a crocheted corn dog is about as goofy as it gets. Mama and I went on a strict diet around the first of July, because our weight is getting out of hand and our joints ache because of it.  Lots of water, lots of fiber, lots of eggs, no candy or chips or soda.  Not the most fun, but we already feel better because of it.  But today we might go to Sonic and pick up a hot dog apiece.  Sonic makes their hot dogs good.  I like mine with relish, mustard, and kraut, while Mama likes...well, ...

What a dull month July is!

Image
After Independence Day there's NOTHING!!!  I didn't realize it until I started looking for reasons to wear this hair bow or that one.  So far July has been the driest month in terms of holidays, even niggling little ones that no one really celebrates.  So today we get yet another crap-shoot bow. It's already been a hard week.  The library board comes tomorrow and the three of us coworkers have been working hard to get the place clean.  That wouldn't sound like a big deal, but all three of us have arthritis and two of us are overweight!  Nevertheless I've done the heavy stuff that Mama and our coworker can't:  the vacuuming and the mopping.  I've STILL got mopping to do, in fact!  And it's supposed to rain tomorrow...and a certain relative of mine never wipes his damn feet. Dusty love, RagingMoon1987

Not looking forward to today

Image
MmmmMay as well wear something to brighten the day. The board is visiting the library next Wednesday, and Boss Lady asked that the library be clean, so I've got a lot to do.  It's not a big deal, really, but I hate chores.  LOL, doesn't everybody??? Love, RagingMoon1987

White or ecru?

Image
Another crap shoot, another random bow.  I picked my white lace bow today. Or is that more ecru?  Does it matter, LOL?  I griped to Mama this morning that this bow utilizes a French clip, and French clips are usually ridiculously uncomfortable.  They poke my head, pull my hair and are hard to place.  But so far this one has been very comfortable.  Etsy shop is VeryShine . Taste of summer

Image
Mama joked not too long ago that I ought to find a bow with dice on it to wear during my crap-shoot days.  Alas, there was none to be found, but I'm not giving up.  Something new pops up on Etsy all the time.  But it's lemonade season now, and that gave me an excuse to trot out an old favorite.  The shop is also one of my favorites, osewpretty . Mama's favorite color and mine! I associate summer with Kool-Aid as much as I do lemonade, so I browsed Etsy for a Kool-Aid-themed bow...and found nothing.  I found earrings galore, but no hair bows.  It's been YEARS since I drank Kool-Aid anyway; when my sister and I were little Mama made it for us all the time.  Grape was my favorite flavor.  LOL, being a goofy little kid, I pronounced it "coo-laid."  As much as things have changed, Kool-Aid probably isn't as good now as it was when I was a kid.  Nothing is.  The chocolate is waxy, the sodas are bitter, and...well, NOTHING is as good now a...

A BERYL of fun

Image
The remnants of Hurricane Beryl moved in over night and it's raining like y'all wouldn't believe.  That means that my green pool bow gets to come out. Looks to be an interesting day today!  Local weather says there's a possibility of tornadoes, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled. Love,  RagingMoon1987

When they cry

Image
The only thing this post has in common with the anime is cicadas.  Here's my clip again. But I've got a different shirt this time.  It's another Etsy find, with a very realistic cicada on the front.  I unfortunately didn't get a picture, but the Etsy shop has good images . So far the cicadas in my neck of the woods haven't been any louder than usual, though they have been earlier than I can remember.  I don't remember being able to hear 'em before Indy Day, and yet it was mid-June when I started hearing 'em.  I loved it, of course; I love the sound of cicadas. Love and bugs, RagingMoon1987

The day after...

Image
The day after the Fourth...usually this is when we start seeing back-to-school crap.  Sooooo... Fooled ya!  Summer still lives!  Shop is Addi Mae's Bowtique .  Mama and I put ourselves on a diet, no ifs, ands, or buts, but she said we can still have a small cone of ice cream every now and then.  So this Saturday that's what we're gonna do.  Sometimes won't nothing do ya but plain ol' vanilla.  Do ya...LOL, do ya, do ya want my love ???  Ice cream and Electric Light Orchestra...what's not to like? Cheers, RagingMoon1987

The day before...

Image
Yep, tomorrow's the day!  July 3rd means my fanciest patriotic bow. When I was a kid July 3rd was like the night before Christmas.  As I said last year we ALWAYS did something fun for the 4th.  Mama made homemade ice cream one year.  Another year it was a feast of bratwurst and hot dogs.  Still another year we adopted a stray kitten.  And yet another year we spent the whole day in the pool and got sunburned beyond belief.  LOL, that was the year that I learned how apple cider vinegar would help take the sting out of sunburns.  I mean, my sister and I are fair anyway, and we got TOASTED that day.  That night as Mama was putting us to bed she brought us a bottle of apple cider vinegar and wanted to put it on our burns...but Sister refused it.  She didn't want to stink, and hell with the pain, apparently.  I, on the other hand, am not a huge fan of pain and don't mind the smell of vinegar, so I happily took the treatment and felt a lot...

Made in the U.S.A.

Image
Today's bow was probably NOT made in the U.S.A. But the chick wearing it is definitely American born and bred.  And I wouldn't have it any other way. Love, RagingMoon1987

Dearly departed

Image
This one is a stretch for today, but according to my favorite holiday website, on this day in 1961 Willie Mays became only the fourth MLB player to hit three or more home runs in a season.  Besides, I never need an excuse to wear my baseball skin bow. Every time I think of our dearly departed friend Willie Mays I get the giggles, because Charlie Brown was a big fan of Mr. Mays.  One day that got him into trouble at school.  LOL, I love the look on his face when he spells the word! Poor ol' Charlie Brown ended up having to go to the office over that. If Chuck's principal was anything like mine he probably gave him a stern talking-to and sent him back to class.  My principals weren't the paddle-happiest in the world, though they would do it if it needed to be done.  Or they would in grade school.  By the time I got to high school and desperately NEEDED a paddling they didn't do it.  Hell, I even asked them why they couldn't just paddle me and send me bac...

Mods!

Image
Don't worry, I'm not going to start rambling about music again (Mods and Rockers and all that).  It's International Body Piercing Day! Actually, now that I think of it none of my piercings bled...take that back.  My lower lip did, but only because I sucked on it.  Don't do that to a fresh lip piercing, kids.  It's really dumb.  Anyway, my father was uber-conservative about the way my sister and I looked, and he was 100% against body piercings, even to the point of having more than one piercing in our ears.  After he died, though...oh, Mama lifted that ban in a heartbeat.  Imagine my shock when my sister came traipsing into my college dorm room sporting both a nose piercing AND a navel piercing!  Daddy would've had a stroke, LOL.  Both Mama and Sister admitted that getting both done at the same time was a huge mistake; one piercing tends to send the body into a type of shock due to...well, due to tissue damage and pain.  The body doesn't ...

Invisible wounds

Today is a more serious one, PTSD Awareness Day.  The awareness color is teal, but this is as close as I could get. As I've established in the past my maternal grandfather fought in WWII and saw things he'd never forget.  Understandably he came back from the war a little shell-shocked, though not anywhere near as badly as some folks.  He did admit that fresh out of the war he wasn't well, and had it not been for Grandma his life might not have gone as positive as it did.  Nonetheless Grandpa lived well and functioned, but he was afraid of fireworks and sudden noises for the rest of his life.  Like all men who worked behind enemy lines he saw plenty of horrible things, and those things tended to haunt him as well.  He had comrades who came back from the war way worse off than he was, but if asked he'd be the first one to admit that he had a little "shell-shock," the term for PTSD back then. Of course one doesn't have to experience a war to have post-traumat...

Can't buy me love

Image
Fitting for an ace, LOL.  Apparently it's Global Beatles Day.  Like I said last Friday, everyone seems to love the Beatles. No, still haven't found a bow devoted to the Who, and that wouldn't have worked today anyway.  I like the Who.  I like the Beatles.  But they're about as different as two British rock bands can be!  Either way it's Global Beatles Day, and while they're not my all-time favorite band I can definitely live with that.  My family had wildly varying tastes in music, but we all liked the Beatles to some extent.  Mama likes Ringo the best.  I like George.  Daddy liked Paul, because they both played bass and had the same name.  NONE of us like John much.  His voice is too whiny and he himself was a mega-hypocrite.  But all four of 'em together?  Not quite genius, but darn close. Beatles fans, what's your favorite song???  I'm not gonna rehash that bit since I did it once, LOL. Rockin' love, RagingMoo...

Sing a happy song...or not

Image
Global Smurfs Day.  That can only mean a blue bow. I'm not a big fan of the Smurfs.  They're too damn cutesy for my taste, and they're kinda dim-witted too.  That said, I did watch a few episodes in my day and I got acquainted with...well, with some of 'em.  Given my fondness for Oscar the Grouch, it should be no surprise that Grouchy Smurf was a favorite of mine.  He was...well, a grouch!  He was eternally in a bad mood, and he said "I hate" a lot.  I think he'd have made good friends with Oscar the Grouch and with Tardar Sauce. It turns out that Grouchy was bitten by a fly long ago and that altered his personality significantly (if one goes by the comics, at least).  He does have a soft spot, admitting his fondness for Smurfette and for Baby Smurf.  Both characters reciprocate Grouchy's positive feelings, and that led to a comical misunderstanding on my part.  My five-year-old self was watching an episode of the 1981 animated series, a...

Raised by boomers

Image
Today is Baby Boomers Recognition Day.  Being raised by baby boomers means getting to hear the good stuff on the radio growing up.  Yep, both Mama and Daddy were/are baby boomers, and they were a bit older when they had my sister and me so we were raised a little on the strict side.  Not that there was no love, of course.  Far from it!  Mama and Daddy were just extra-protective, and when I grew into a smart-a$$, know-it-all teenager I felt kinda stifled.  It was all for the best, though; I had no idea that the boy I had a wild crush on was into drugs, and Mama did.  And on a positive note I got tips from both parents on how to dress with a retro edge (which I loved to do in high school).  I wore my hair long and my jeans shabby, with necklaces piled on and earrings to my shoulders.  Some of the other kids probably made fun of me behind my back, but as long as I didn't catch wind of it all was good. Oh yes, and the music.  I think I've sa...

Hot, hot heat

Time to batten down the hatches!  Summer is here, and it's an El Nino summer!  Last summer was horrendous, but since El Nino is hanging around I figure this summer will REALLY be a bitch.  Anyway, summer for me means lemonade...heck, anytime means lemonade.  Etsy shop is the defunct AdoraBowsStore. Not much to say today.  I'm in significant pain due to arthritis, and that's left me depressed, but other than that, nothing. Love, RagingMoon1987
