The Bow Belle

International Space Day.  Etsy shop is MoFunAccessories . I've always maintained a vague interest in space travel and study, but nothing too serious.  Mama, on the other hand, wonders how much tax money the country has spent on such shenanigans, and I have to admit she has a point.  I also have to wonder:  have we learned anything of use from our studies of space?  Have we gained anything besides pretty images of nebulae and Saturn and that?  The answer is probably yes, but I'm dumb and naive so I wouldn't know.  I could give you statistics about who all has died during our explorations of the wild blue yonder, but that's about it.  Don't read about Valentin Bondarenko unless your gut's pretty strong, by the way.  His fate was nearly identical to that of the Apollo 1 crew , but he lived for several hours in excruciating pain.  If the damn commies had been honest about Bondarenko's death then the Apollo 1 disaster might've been averted.....

While the girls in N'awlins are traipsing around trading bare boobies for plastic beads, I'm rocking a big bow. I've actually got two of these, LOL.  Mama liked 'em, so she got one one year, and then the second another year.  They she'd glitter like mad, but they're comfortable.  As for Mardi Gras...well, I'm not a big partier, but I'd love to attend at least one festival, just to say I've done it.  Daddy told me once that Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida hold smaller festivals than the huge one in New Orleans.  I don't know if that's true, but if it IS true I wanna go.  Happy Fat Tuesday, RagingMoon1987

The other day I discussed corduroy, and today Imma discuss one of my other favorite fabrics. My reasons for loving velvet are the same as my reasons for loving corduroy:  it's soft and shiny and warm, and it can be utilized a lot of different ways.  Two of my favorite dresses growing up were velvet, both handmade by the same wonderful woman.  The first was this knee-length job with a wide lace collar, and the velvet was this beautiful blue shade like the dress Felicity Merriman wore during her Christmas story. Only difference is that Felicity's dress was and is taffeta.  But the color was the same.  I wore that dress to the school's winter concert that year, and as we were all letting out, looking for our parents, I ran into a little kid that was about five (I was eleven).  She had a Dalmatian-spotted coat made of fake fur, and we both stood for a few seconds feeling the softness of each other's clothes.   The other dress was the same color as the...

Idiot Uncle Man-Child was snooping over Mama's shoulder, and when he saw the picture of this bow he thought it was a cat.  The colors make me think of Alice in Wonderland, but I'll save my discussion of Alice for another time and another bow.  The flourishes in the center make me think of Faberge eggs . I told Mama that if I were a rich lady I'd buy one piece of Faberge jewelry.  Just one.  After all these years they're still very much into Easter eggs, and a lot of their necklaces pay tribute to that.  But shee-yoodie, some of those prices!  One could buy a nice house or a REALLY nice car for the price of some of those necklaces...and wouldn't y'all know, one of the most expensive ones is my favorite necklace.  I like it the best because it's modelled after one of the imperial eggs .  I wish there was a necklace that was modelled after the ...

I'm completing this post on the fly, so I'll talk a little bit about the night sky, which I love.  When I was a little kid my favorite thing to do was lie on my back and look at the sky, but I usually did this during daylight hours cause...well, when you're a little kid nighttime is bedtime.  When I was skygazing my favorite thing to look for was biplanes.  I'm not sure why, except maybe that biplanes are a little different from regular airplanes.  But I didn't get to do a lot of nocturnal skygazing, and thus I didn't know about airglow until I was in coll...
