Geeks unite!

Image
Today is the anniversary of yet another violent tornado outbreak, and also World Geek Day.  I assume that Whovians fall on the geek spectrum, so out comes one of my big bows.  Etsy shop is AandMsBOWtique ; I need to tell the shop owner that this bow has received a lot of compliments. It also helps that Uncle From St. Louis is home for the weekend, and he's the only other Whovian in the family.  I'm dying to ask him what he thinks of Number Fourteen.  For me no one will top Number Eleven, but that's just my opinion. Geeks rule, RagingMoon1987

Star Wars Day has come again

Image
Time to drag out the Sith bow again.  This one hasn't seen the light of day since LAST May 4th , which is sad.  I could wear this bow with just about anything I want.  Etsy shop is PreciousWonderland . Another year has gone by without me watching the Star Wars films.  As I've said in the past I have absolutely nothing against it, but I still couldn't tell Tattoine from Skaro...yeah, probably I could.  Skaro is crawling with Daleks and they're impossible to miss.   Sweeping change of subject, the Kentucky Derby is being held today, so my prayers are with the jockeys and the horses.  Despite what PETA might tell you, those horses get treated better than a lot of humans do.  But...accidents happen, like they did with Barbaro and Ruffian and goodness knows who else, so I always pray for the well-being of those horses. Love, RagingMoon1987

Can you hear me, Major Tom?

International Space Day.  Etsy shop is MoFunAccessories . I've always maintained a vague interest in space travel and study, but nothing too serious.  Mama, on the other hand, wonders how much tax money the country has spent on such shenanigans, and I have to admit she has a point.  I also have to wonder:  have we learned anything of use from our studies of space?  Have we gained anything besides pretty images of nebulae and Saturn and that?  The answer is probably yes, but I'm dumb and naive so I wouldn't know.  I could give you statistics about who all has died during our explorations of the wild blue yonder, but that's about it.  Don't read about Valentin Bondarenko unless your gut's pretty strong, by the way.  His fate was nearly identical to that of the Apollo 1 crew , but he lived for several hours in excruciating pain.  If the damn commies had been honest about Bondarenko's death then the Apollo 1 disaster might've been averted.....

Missouri's Roswell

Image
Today I thought it might be fun to discuss UFOs.  I don't know if any UFOs actually carry little green men with big eyes, but...well, y'never know.  Etsy shop is the one and only AbbeysAlley . Most people I know are aware of Roswell, New Mexico and the mysteries surrounding Area 51, regardless of whether they believe in aliens or not.  My sister hypothesizes that the government is working on biological warfare stuff out there, and her reasons for believing that are pretty good, but I digress.  Not everyone knows that my home state of Missouri has had a few Roswell-type events of its own.  There was an unusual event in Cape Girardeau, clean back in July of 1941.  This was before the U.S. entered WWII, but that likelihood was increasing by July and thus there were a lot of airplanes coming and going around Cape.  The public was told that the event in question was a plane crash, but the sole civilian that was called there saw something completely dif...

Something random will live long and prosper

Image
Today is Live Long and Prosper Day, but I'm not big enuff of a Star Trek fan to have one of the bows.  Not yet, anyway; I certainly have nothing against Star Trek , and I love that fiasco with the Tribbles.  The Doctor captured me with ease, so I reckon First Officer Spock can too if I let him.  By the way, when I was a little kid Spock gave me the creeps; there was a poster in the old library with him on it, and I did everything I could to avoid it.  Rambling aside, no Star Trek bow today.  I picked something at random, something I haven't worn in awhile.  VeryShine is the Etsy shop this time; I last wore this bow in September . According to some of my dolly friends denizens of the planet Shimmeron wear a lot of lace.  That would mean Spectra and the Shimmerons , of course.  So, residents of Shimmeron, live long and prosper, may the Force be with you, don't piss off the Cybermen, all that good stuff. I do not own Spectra or any of her lacy, sp...

Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Image
My vote is for yes, but you do you.  As Garfield once pointed out, no one can EVER agree on pizza toppings .  LOL, today is National Pizza Day.  Shop is KallieBowCo . What aliens have to do with pizza, I don't know, but I love the juxtaposition.  If Pizza Hut is to be believed, it was extraterrestrial pizza-cutter aliens who made stuffed crust pizza popular, so there's that, I guess.  LOL, I loved those Pizza Head commercials! I don't know really what to say about pizza, except that there is a fanbase devoted enuff to have their own magazine.  Dolly fans, knitters, Whovians, and railfans all have their own magazines, and apparently so do pizza fans.  PMQ Pizza Magazine is who I turn to on the rare occasion when I need info on pizza, LOL.  In September of 2011 they ran an interesting article on the pizza joints that were wiped out by the then-recent Joplin tornado, discussing everything from Pizza Hut to the local mom 'n' pop shops.  The Pi...

In search of the lost Whovian

Image
Today is one of those days where folks my mother's age will turn to folks my age and say " You know what day this is, right? "  If you're American, odds are that you'll know, but if you're not American and/or don't know, here's a link.  Mama says that JFK's assassination was their equivalent of 9/11; everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when they got the news.  But today I'm doing something completely different, partly to vocalize my feelings about a situation that is now almost a year old, and partly to (hopefully) get some feedback.  First things first:  the bow.  Tomorrow is Doctor Who Day, and that ties into the story I'm about to tell.  Etsy shop is AandMsBOWtique . The TARDIS is a cheer bow, and the Doctor himself is a teddy bear.  I've officially seen everything. Now buckle up, because I'm about to start bloviating.  Last December I met a young man, and NO, WE DID NOT FALL IN LOVE!!!  Not romantic love ...

I'm gonna be high as a kite by then

Like yesterday's bow, today's bow dates back to last year and the summer reading program.  I don't remember who the focus was that week, but she was both a Missourian and involved with rocket science.  Hence... ...oh, I'm a rocket man!  LOL, I think the Etsy seller is MoFunAccessories .  This would be about their speed.  If you want a hair dec that's over-the-top, MoFun is your place to go. I'm completing this post on the fly, so I'll talk a little bit about the night sky, which I love.  When I was a little kid my favorite thing to do was lie on my back and look at the sky, but I usually did this during daylight hours cause...well, when you're a little kid nighttime is bedtime.  When I was skygazing my favorite thing to look for was biplanes.  I'm not sure why, except maybe that biplanes are a little different from regular airplanes.  But I didn't get to do a lot of nocturnal skygazing, and thus I didn't know about airglow until I was in coll...

EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE!!!

Image
Why do Daleks have a day of their own???  Indeed, according to my favorite holiday website these inverted trash cans with eyestalks get TWO days, the next one being in December.  Either way, I've got the bow. For the uninitiated, Daleks are the bane of Doctor Who's existence.  They are essentially these slimy looking little beings that live inside the armored trash can pictured on my bow.  They are very dangerous, and since they're based off the Nazis they're also ruthless.  Despite the danger that Daleks present to...well, everything that lives and breathes, the Doctor regards them with contempt rather than fear .  Indeed, the Doctor turned the tables on the Daleks at least once when the Ninth Doctor subjected one Dalek to a nasty torture session...with a smile on his face, no less!  WhoCulture listed that stunt as one of the worst things the Doctor ever did, but considering what the Daleks did to the Doctor's home planet...well, can you blame him for...

Star Wars Day!

Image
Or not, since I'm a Sith, complete with a lightsaber bow to match.  Etsy shop is PreciousWonderland .  This one completes my "nerd trilogy;" pill-popping Pac-Man and Doctor Who take the other two slots (those debuted on March 22nd and April 19 , respectively). Yeah, I align with the dark side.  I have ever since my bout with COVID-19.  See? LOL, I took that picture of my own ugly mug on the day I tested positive for COVID-19, back in January of 2022.  I had only a mild case, but boy, did I feel lousy!  I announced to my Failbook friends that I had the virus and that it had turned me into a Sith Lord, and my uncle responded "Yes, sweetie.  Join us on the dark side!"  LOL, so now I'm a Sith.  And I am your father. For the record, I am NOT a hardcore Star Wars fan (yet).  I have nothing against it, and I think Harrison Ford/Han Solo is a hottie, but I've never seen the movies, never read the books, and sometimes I'm even lucky if I can tel...

The Doctor will see you now

Image
I'd wanted to wait until November to debut this one, but November is a long way off.  Etsy shop is DollfaceDesignss , the same bunch that supplied my pill-popping Pac-Man.  I'm a casual Doctor Who  fan, and I hope to grow into a full-blown fan.  I've followed the show about a year now, ever since I came down with the coronavirus in January of 2022.  Matt Smith/the Eleventh Doctor is my favorite of the Doctors so far, while Donna Noble is my favorite companion.  I'm excited for this November, when Donna will (I hope) get a happier ending than the last one.  Google it if you're curious, because Donna's situation is a bit more complicated than I can explain here. Whovians unite!  If you're one of the crew give me a holler.   Cheers, RagingMoon1987
