It's not easy being green

Image
It's Oscar the Grouch Day, and I can't for the life of me find a hair bow with him on it!  As I've established in the past, I'm quite fond of Oscar the Grouch.  No time like today to wear green. Mama found socks and T-shirts with Oscar the Grouch on them, but neither she nor I have been able to locate a hair bow with him on it.  I know I could custom order one, but for some reason I really hate that.  And as insane as this week has been, I've needed the green grouchpuss by my side. Green, grouchy love, RagingMoon1987

Another day for a critter

Image
Today is International Turtle Day.  The shop this time is MichelesBowtique . Daddy loved elephants and foxes, I love frogs, sloths, and red pandas, and my brother-in-law's animal of choice is the turtle.  I think he's thinking of the box turtles that are thick as thieves around here, but a sea turtle is what I found.  Besides, sea turtles are wicked awesome too.  However, my heart will always lie with snapping turtles.  Being from the Bootheel, I call these "snappin'" turtles or just "snappers."  Alligator snappers are endangered, but I've seen a few and I've gotten pictures.  You don't want to monkey with snappers, but they're truly beautiful in their own way.  I captured this feller in 2017 just outside Malden city limits. I think this one was your regular snapper and not an alligator snapper, but I've seen both living in our ditches.  This chap was about eighteen inches from head to tail, and he scuttled off into the grass after I ...

Pray today...and every day

Image
Since it's International Day of Prayer, that can only mean my John 3:16 bow is appropriate. As loony as the world has become we NEED to pray!  Tornadoes, protests, and pro-palestinian horsesh!t here in the U.S., wars in Sudan, in Israel, in Russia and Ukraine, in Myanmar, it's just a hair cray-cray.  The wars in Sudan and in Myanmar appear to be civil wars, and I REALLY hate that.  No war is good, but civil wars always seem to be the cruelest. Regarding the tornadoes, April used to be the worst month for us here in the Bootheel, but lately May has been even more so.  I first noticed it in 2011 when Joplin got hit...but then that was just a bad spring, period.  God wasn't happy then either.  What I don't get was why the tornado had to plow through Joplin, and not some place where a lot of conflict was going on, but that's not my place to know, I don't s'pose.  My job is...well, to pray.  Pray for safety, pray for those that were hurt, give thanks f...

A holiday with my name all over it!

Image
Apparently the third Friday in April is Blue and Green Day.  My two favorite colors!  Etsy shop is TopNotchCheerBows . With it being so close to Earth Day I suspect that the blue and green is supposed to signify the environment.  I can get behind that.  I don't think going green is the way, the truth, and the life like a lot of leftists do, but I will admit that taking care of the planet is important.  We've got a lot of cool stuff living on Earth with us, and if we humans aren't careful a lot of it could go extinct.  My favorite at-risk creatures are South China tigers, golden lion tamarins, and poison dart frogs.  South China tigers are extinct in the wild, but the Chinese aren't giving up on saving them.  South China tigers are wicked beautiful , by the way. On the other hand, my college biology professor (the one who declared bats glorious) opined that we're in the middle of a mass extinction as it is, nothing could've stopped it, and nothing ...

Do NOT pinch me

Image
Yeah, yeah, I know St. Pat's is tomorrow.  But just the same I'm wearing a green hair bow, therefore I am exempt from pinching. Seriously, I slapped a guy in high school for pinching me one too many times.  It WAS St. Pat's and I was NOT wearing green, and if my friend had left it at one pinch I'd have been fine.  But he kept wanting to do it!  So after about the fifth pinch I popped him.  Not hard, I mean.  Just hard enuff that I got my point across, and we stayed friends afterwards.  But to quote Daffy Duck, I can't stand pain.  It hurts me! Speaking of popping stuff, since today is Saturday I look forward to popping a beer tonight.  I don't drink on weeknights since I take a pill to help me sleep, but if I'm gonna be off the next day I'll crack open a bottle of Rolling Rock or something like that.  Tonight's the perfect night for that. Bottoms up and all that stuff, RagingMoon198

Arachnophobia

Image
Today is, among other holidays, Save a Spider Day.  I wore this one before last October, right after my birthday . One of my Failbook friends is a spider enthusiast, and she declared this bow her favorite in dramatic and hilarious fashion.  As I implied in October I have a love-hate relationship with spiders, and a full-tilt HATE-hate relationship with brown recluses.  But in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, if I run into any today I'll give 'em a free pass.  I know for a fact that there's a huge brownie living in Uncle Man-Child's laundry room, and whenever I see him he's booking it like he knows what I'll do if I catch him.  Since Uncle Man-Child doesn't have any pets I usually leave any spiders I run across alone. Oh yeah, it's World Kidney Day as well.  I suffer from mild kidney problems (stones), so a green ribbon would work too.  Hey, my spider bow is half-green!  I killed two birds with one (kidney) stone! Spidery love, RagingMoon198...

Plan green, but mighty nice

Image
Back when I was just starting to collect/wear hair bows I couldn't find any green ones...at least, not at Wal-Mart.  I ended up grubbing this up at Hobby Lobby.  Just a plain kelly green cheer bow, but it was exactly what I was looking for back then.  I wanted a green bow, period.  Now I've got several, LOL.  Solid bows are kinda a necessity now that I've got a blouse with multiple colors of stripes (including this shade of green).  Kinda gives me an excuse to wear my solid bows now! Not that I ever need an excuse to wear green! Love, RagingMoon1987

Are leprechauns ever hippies?

Image
From the looks of this bow, I believe so! Most of the leprechauns I've seen are depicted...well, kinda like this! If the leprechauns were real I wonder if they'd get tired of being depicted like that?  Styles change with the years, after all!   Now, time for something of a tangent.  I never was a fan of the shows on Cartoon Network.  Too many innuendos, and even the animation looked gross at times.  As a result I had no idea that Juniper Lee knew a leprechaun...and he's a hippie ! His name is Jeff, he's full-sized, and he's a hippie, man!  So I guess that, like humans, leprechauns can be anything they want to be! Peace out, RagingMoon1987

Another one of THOSE days

Image
I actually like THOSE days, the days were there's no goofy holiday or anything.  Days like to day mean that I can wear whatever hair bow I choose.  Today the weather is supposed to be bad, so I opted for one of my plastic bows.  Etsy shop is LeahBowsCreations . It's transparent, and thus the bows from April 19th and November 22nd are clearly visible.  Maybe a plain background would be better in this case. Yeah, definitely better.  I have two plastic bows, one blue and one green, and today I chose the green one .  It hasn't seen daylight since last April.  It's not the most comfortable bow since it's pretty stiff, but it also doesn't catch the wind and pull my hair when the wind blows like my bigger bows do.  Yeah, went through that song and dance a few months ago when one of Mama's dogs decided to die on a very cold, very windy day.  Thank God she was a little dog. That's about all I have to say today.  A no-frills bow equals a no-fril...

I never need an excuse to wear green

Image
No, I never need a reason, but green is for gallbladder cancer (and likely gallbladder health in general), and today is World Cholangiocarcinoma Day. My mother had her gallbladder removed two and a half years ago, and let me tell y'all, that was one hellish summer.  I had to take care of my own house, my mother's house, my mother, AND work, and I was so run-down that a very sick patron asked me if I was alright.  Yep, y'all read that right.  The patron (one of my favorites) was herself very ill, and she asked me if I was alright.  Indeed, that patron died recently, probably of lung fibroids.  If her lungs weren't giving her fits her liver was, so it was just a matter of time before one of 'em got her, but I still miss that patron.  Anyway, Mama had a terrible summer that year due to her gallbladder, but she survived and will thus never have to worry about cholangiocarcinoma.  But I DO have a gallbladder still.  Thankfully, cholangiocarcinoma is ra...

Naming names

Image
This one is the first bow I wore for the blog.  Etsy shop is osewpretty . I can't sling a dead cat without hitting another Sarah, and the vast majority of the ones I've met have my middle name, Elizabeth.  I have met one lady named Sarah Magdalene, but I digress.  During my tweens I wanted to change my name to "Rebecca" or "Susannah," but ultimately I decided it wasn't worth the effort, and "Sarah Elizabeth" was fine. I did almost change my mind my second year of college, when there were THREE Sarah Elizabeths living on my floor.  When the RA called out my name I shrugged and said "Call me 'Tree Frog.'"  "Tree Frog" was a nickname I gave myself as a child, and I thought "why not?"  I was "Tree Frog" for a long time after that, and I'll STILL answer to it. Despite my childhood umbrage at being named something kinda plain, I thank God now that Mama and Daddy named my sister and me something sens...

I am resolved

Image
Religious Freedom Day was yesterday, but I don't need much of an excuse to wear this bow.  It was a gift, so I don't know what/who the Etsy shop is, but I know it IS an Etsy bow. Thank God we still have the right to worship as we see fit in this country.  That may one day change, but right now I can worship how I wish without having to keep an eye half-open.  That sadly isn't true for a lot of the Jews in this world, even here in the U.S.  Oh sure, Jews have the right to assemble, but...now that I stop to think of it just about ALL of the main religions have had some sort of hate crime here in the U.S. over the past couple'a decades. God bless, RagingMoon1987

One of my favorite fabrics

Image
And my favorite color, LOL.  Etsy shop is SpaceCatSupplyCo . I associate corduroy with comfort, warmth, and childhood.  When I was a little kid we had a brown corduroy recliner, and more often than not that's where Mama and I sat after dinner.  Our bellies would be full and usually I'd be fresh from a bath, I'd have a lapful of kiddie books, and Mama would hold me and read to me.  Our cat would sometimes add to the homey atmosphere by ricocheting off the back of the chair during a spell of zoomies.  One night I counted five times that she did that, LOL.  We were on the couch that night, but when we were sitting in that chair and the cat bounced off it, it sure made a heckuva noise! Some of my kiddie clothes were also made of corduroy.  I had a little vest that was made of the fabric, and it always chagrined me that I could only wear it during winter.  The vest was dark green, much darker than the bow I've got now, and I could zip it up "all by mys...

Image
I like circles, but I didn't know there was a day for them.  Today is Look For Circles Day , and the circle happens to be my favorite shape.  Etsy shop is KeeliesCheerBows . Mama wasn't lying when she said that every day had some sort of goofy made-up holiday.  By the way, I wonder when polka dots stop being polka dots and start being circles.  These look pretty close to the threshold, but I don't know where that threshold is. <pauses to look it up>  According to designpoolpatterns.com , circles are hollow or contain some sort of motif (like the Chessie System logo sort of does), while polka dots are a solid color all the way through.  So it sounds like all polka dots are circles, but not all circles are polka dots.  But seriously, circles have always been my favorite shape.  They're smooth all over, and some of my favorite things were circles.  My favorite game was whiffle ball, and most of the best balls are round.  My favo...

A no-no

Image
As Halloween approaches, my bows get more over-the-top.  Which is what I wanted, LOL. This bow makes me giggle for another reason, as the green parts are almost the exact same color as the green screen that actors and meteorologists work with.  When bad weather is afoot Mama and I turn to YouTube meteorologist Ryan Hall and...I think he calls his bunch the Y'all Squad.  One of the squad's members is a guy named Andy Hill (LOL, Hall and Hill).  Andy has a small gay pride flag on his desk behind him, and I don't know if he's ever been told this, but the green stripe on the flag acts as a tiny green screen!  It's hilarious to watch.  Anyway, now you know why your local meteorologist never wears green.  No secret, really, and probably just about everyone already knows, but I needed something to talk about! There was one year when my family's jack o'lanterns glowed green, LOL.  It had been very dry, so instead of lighting our jack o'lanterns with candl...

Summer's last hurrah

Image
As far as I'm concerned it can't go away fast enuff, 'cause it's been a doozy.  To celebrate, I present a bow that has a little bit of everything and a lot of my favorite things. My favorite colors (blue and green), and two of my favorite prints (polka dots and argyle).  This one came out of the Wrong Box and thus was a complete (but welcome) surprise.  Etsy shop is no longer open; it was AdoraBowsStore.  Drat it, that shop had such cute stuff.  Oh well, I'm glad Mama and I took advantage of it while we could. Yeah, I know summer doesn't truly end until...<pauses to look> this year it'll be September 23rd, but according to our local weatherman "meteorological fall" begins tomorrow.  We all know weathermen NEVER are wrong (LOL)!!!  Of course the end of summer doesn't mean I have to dial back the colors completely, but it will mean a change from cooler hues and lightweight fabrics to warm tones and fabrics with more heft.  Y'all will s...

The way, the truth, and the life

Image
My bow today is one of my first ones, given to me on my thirty-second birthday by who else but my mama. It's got a Christian theme, and while I'll never claim to be a good Christian, I'll still claim Christ as my Lord and Savior any day.  And that's all I'm gonna say today. INRI, RagingMoon1987

The time to hesitate is through...

Image
I've shown this one before, but this is the first time I've worn it.   Etsy shop is  beautifulChaos101 .  They specialize in stuff that glows under blacklight, for laser tag, moon golf, blacklight bowling, or just for the heckuvit.  I love things that glow in the dark or under blacklight, and this bow fills that void .   I'm not really sure what else to say, other than that this bow is extremely comfortable.  It has a double loop of elastic and sometimes those bows are NOT comfortable, but this one is.  I suppose I could also ramble on about the Doors and how hot Jim Morrison was, but...well, everyone knows that! Love, RagingMoon1987

Another of those random days

Image
It isn't often that I get two of those days in one week.  Here's what I chose for today.  Etsy shop is Tulazohairbows , a shop that I love. This is my third bow from there, and I opted to get one with a tassel rather than a pom-pom.  Tulazo has both options, as well as options that have neither and are just bows that hang out and look pretty on a ponytail.  This is another one of those bows that would never jive in front of a green screen, LOL.  Those green stripes are the exact color as a green screen.  But again, I'm not expecting to ever step in front of a green screen, so there's that out of the way. So that's it for this week!  Life continues to be kinda dull, but really smooth.  I'd rather have life smooth and dull than rough and exciting, especially after LAST summer, when Mama was in the hospital (gallbladder).  Take care of yourselves when you're young, folks, or you'll end up spending a summer with drains in your stomach...or a quar...

I'm free!

Image
Today is the only day of this particular week that I don't have a specific bow picked out, so I chose something at random.  I love getting to do that. Kinda wish I had a Rolling Stones bow, for that song about being free : I'm free To do what I want Any old time! Repeat that several times, over a sea of airy guitars.  I love that era of Rolling Stones music, the sixties and early seventies when the Mod era was still alive and well, and "I'm Free" is one of my favorite songs by them.  I need to see what I can do about finding a Stones bow; Muse is apparently not popular enuff to have hair bows themed after them, but I know the Rolling Stones are.  Probably now that I've harped about not being able to find a Muse-themed hair bow, I WILL find one. Anyway, it's nice to be free!  True, I'm not always free to do what I want, but for the most part I have the ability to do whatever.  I have the freedom to wear green to work, for example.  The meteorologists t...
