Not looking forward to today

MmmmMay as well wear something to brighten the day. The board is visiting the library next Wednesday, and Boss Lady asked that the library be clean, so I've got a lot to do.  It's not a big deal, really, but I hate chores.  LOL, doesn't everybody??? Love, RagingMoon1987

Dearly departed

Image
This one is a stretch for today, but according to my favorite holiday website, on this day in 1961 Willie Mays became only the fourth MLB player to hit three or more home runs in a season.  Besides, I never need an excuse to wear my baseball skin bow. Every time I think of our dearly departed friend Willie Mays I get the giggles, because Charlie Brown was a big fan of Mr. Mays.  One day that got him into trouble at school.  LOL, I love the look on his face when he spells the word! Poor ol' Charlie Brown ended up having to go to the office over that. If Chuck's principal was anything like mine he probably gave him a stern talking-to and sent him back to class.  My principals weren't the paddle-happiest in the world, though they would do it if it needed to be done.  Or they would in grade school.  By the time I got to high school and desperately NEEDED a paddling they didn't do it.  Hell, I even asked them why they couldn't just paddle me and send me bac...

It's not easy being green

Image
It's Oscar the Grouch Day, and I can't for the life of me find a hair bow with him on it!  As I've established in the past, I'm quite fond of Oscar the Grouch.  No time like today to wear green. Mama found socks and T-shirts with Oscar the Grouch on them, but neither she nor I have been able to locate a hair bow with him on it.  I know I could custom order one, but for some reason I really hate that.  And as insane as this week has been, I've needed the green grouchpuss by my side. Green, grouchy love, RagingMoon1987

Another one for the bees

Image
It's a random day!  I love these!  For today's randomness I chose a bee bow, one that I haven't worn in forever .  Etsy shop is CutiePatootieBow17, who is currently not selling anything. Bees!  I think our local efforts to help bees may be paying off, as I've seen a lot of 'em around Grandma's place.  We had a bumper crop of clover and dandelions this year, and Grandma's neighbors have a magnolia tree, so there's ample food for any bees that come along.  Sigh...when Grandma's crabapple tree was alive the bees came in the thousands, but that tree is gone.  The 2009 ice storm split it in two.  I spent a lot of time playing in that tree as a child, so when I heard it had been destroyed I was devastated.  There's a maple tree growing there now though, and it's a good tree.  Pretty and healthy.  It just doesn't attract bees. For my feathered (and winged) friends

Image
It's Pink Flamingo Day, and I don't have a flamingo bow so I chose an old favorite. Flamingos are special to me because they remind me of a friend who died not too long ago.  She loved flamingoes and kept those goofy plastic ones in her yard.  Her husband STILL leaves 'em out, in fact!  Miss D had cervical cancer, and it unfortunately was too far gone for them to do much when she was diagnosed.  A metastasis wrapped around her aorta, and that thankfully took her quickly.  I didn't know her as well as Mama did, but we talked on Failbook about music (we both liked the Guess Who) and about pets.  She was a nice lady.  Thus is the drawback of befriending people way older than you; they eventually die off.  That's happened a lot lately.  Granted, most of the friends I've lost this year were just folks I knew from the library, so we weren't bosom buddies or anything.  But it still stings. Right, flamingoes are among my favorite birds, partiall...

For the split minds

Today's bow is big and silver for World Schizophrenia Awareness Day.  Etsy shop is PurelyGirlyBows . I don't have schizophrenia and I don't know anyone with schizophrenia, but I've always been fascinated by and terrified of the disorder.  Some folks with this scourge of an illness develop atrophy of the frontal lobe, and y'all can probably guess what that does to them.  You can't recover from that.  So if you've got schizophrenia or love someone with schizophrenia, this bow's for you.  Please know that you are loved. Curse of the Bambino

Image
I haven't worn the baseball bow this season, so here's our old friend from kraftyelves . For the record, today is Babe Ruth Day.  Being a Cardinals fan I'm more into Stan Musial and Ozzie Smith, but I won't knock the Bambino.  Well, maybe I will, since the scoundrel couldn't keep his pants on.  I don't harbor a boatload of respect for folks who cheat on their spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends. Baseball can be a superstitious sport, and one of those superstitions related to Mr. Man-Whore Ruth.  The two that I can think of are the Curse of the Bambino (bestowed on the Red Sox by fans of the man-whore) and the Curse of the Billy Goat (placed on the Cubs by a local tavern owner).  Both the Curse of the Bambino and the Curse of the Billy Goat have since been broken.  The Sox broke their curse in 2004...to my beloved Cardinals, no less.  Their drought...actually began a year before the supposed begin of the curse, in 1919.  Since then they've won one othe...

Another pineapple bow

Image
It's 4/20 Day, but blah-blah-blah, I said that last year.  It's also National Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Day again, so I'll...actually, I can't remember if I've ever worn this one. Certainly is a busy little number, isn't it!  Kinda reminds me of Lady G, a Tonner doll that one of my favorite doll bloggers reviewed many years ago .  She had a short but busy skirt that incorporated stripes and polka dots and just about everything. There are times when I tell Mama, "Oh, you know my taste:  tacky!"  LOL, she swears up and down that my bow today isn't tacky, but I'm not convinced.  Oh well, I like stuff tacky sometimes; that's what makes it fun!  As for pineapple...hmmm, I think I've told y'all of my love-hate relationship with it.  I love it fresh thanks to my sister cramming a wedge of it in my mouth, but the canned stuff?  Forget it!  Despite my ambiguous feelings towards the fruit, I love wearing it as a hair bow or as a jewelry item...

Bats are glorious!

Image
Today is International Bat Appreciation Day, and I happen to be VERY fond of bats.  Y'all know what that means.  Etsy shop is LavAveHandmade . When I was in college I had a professor who declared anything he liked to be "glorious."  One day we were out in the woods measuring...jeez, I don't remember what, but up on one of the trees there was a wooden house that was definitely not a birdhouse.  I had an idea about what it was, but I asked anyway and Dr. S replied "Oh, that's a bat box.  We're researching bats."  "Ewwww, I don't like bats," another student grimaced.  "Bats are glorious!" Dr. S exclaimed, and I agreed with a big smile. Yeah, I've always liked bats.  Having grown up in the country with plenty of mosquitoes and fruit trees meant that the bats were and still are thick during the warm months.  They were your usual little brown bats (the sparrow of the bat family), with a few big brown bats mixed in, and undoubted...

Arachnophobia

Today is, among other holidays, Save a Spider Day.  I wore this one before last October, right after my birthday . One of my Failbook friends is a spider enthusiast, and she declared this bow her favorite in dramatic and hilarious fashion.  As I implied in October I have a love-hate relationship with spiders, and a full-tilt HATE-hate relationship with brown recluses.  But in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, if I run into any today I'll give 'em a free pass.  I know for a fact that there's a huge brownie living in Uncle Man-Child's laundry room, and whenever I see him he's booking it like he knows what I'll do if I catch him.  Since Uncle Man-Child doesn't have any pets I usually leave any spiders I run across alone. Oh yeah, it's World Kidney Day as well.  I suffer from mild kidney problems (stones), so a green ribbon would work too.  Hey, my spider bow is half-green!  I killed two birds with one (kidney) stone! Spidery love, RagingMoon198...

Do you like green eggs and ham?

Image
Seeing as it's just ham and eggs with food coloring, yeah, I can stomach it!   Hmmm...or maybe it's NOT green food coloring! This one is a special bow, as a local lady named Claudia Gage King made it.  Miss Claudia is manager of the local Dollar Tree and sells hair bows as a side gig.  Her coworkers also tell me that she's got a website, though I haven't yet found it.  When I DO find it I'll update with a link.  She's got some cute stuff in multiple sizes, and she told me that she was open to commissions. As to Dr. Seuss...killecrankie, I think everyone loves Dr. Seuss, no matter how old they are.  Green Eggs and Ham is one of those classics that remains popular in the current day.  Indeed, I forget how many copies of the book my library has lost over the years.  Jerks will check 'em out and just...not bring 'em back, fines be damned.  As for me, I love how Sam-I-Am lets his unnamed friend's opening lines roll off his back.  UNNAME...

FML

Image
So far every day this week has either begun or ended with a big FML moment.  Yesterday was the worst so far, so I'm hoping maybe a unicorn will offer me some luck. Yeah, I figure a unicorn appearing in my life is about as likely as the perfect man appearing, but it doesn't stop the bow from being cute.  And with the good Lord on my side I don't need unicorns anyway. But they're still fun to wear! Love, RagingMoon1987

I never need an excuse to wear green

Image
No, I never need a reason, but green is for gallbladder cancer (and likely gallbladder health in general), and today is World Cholangiocarcinoma Day. My mother had her gallbladder removed two and a half years ago, and let me tell y'all, that was one hellish summer.  I had to take care of my own house, my mother's house, my mother, AND work, and I was so run-down that a very sick patron asked me if I was alright.  Yep, y'all read that right.  The patron (one of my favorites) was herself very ill, and she asked me if I was alright.  Indeed, that patron died recently, probably of lung fibroids.  If her lungs weren't giving her fits her liver was, so it was just a matter of time before one of 'em got her, but I still miss that patron.  Anyway, Mama had a terrible summer that year due to her gallbladder, but she survived and will thus never have to worry about cholangiocarcinoma.  But I DO have a gallbladder still.  Thankfully, cholangiocarcinoma is ra...

Fat Tuesday!

Image
While the girls in N'awlins are traipsing around trading bare boobies for plastic beads, I'm rocking a big bow. I've actually got two of these, LOL.  Mama liked 'em, so she got one one year, and then the second another year.  They she'd glitter like mad, but they're comfortable.  As for Mardi Gras...well, I'm not a big partier, but I'd love to attend at least one festival, just to say I've done it.  Daddy told me once that Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida hold smaller festivals than the huge one in New Orleans.  I don't know if that's true, but if it IS true I wanna go.  Happy Fat Tuesday, RagingMoon1987

More of the same

Image
Yet another unicorn bow, and an uber-sparkly one at that! In truth these springlike colors have been perfect for the kind of weather the center of the country has been having.  As of writing it's already fifty-two degrees Fahrenheit, and it's predicted to get warmer.  Then as always the weather's gonna change; it's supposed to rain all weekend.  Oh well, I like rain. Love, RagingMoon1987

It finally snowed

Image
Yes, it finally snowed, and I'm ready for it to take a hike.  Either way snow calls for...you guessed it, a Frozen bow. I reiterate, I've never seen Frozen.  And yet...and yet I have more Frozen bows than I do bows for programs I've seen and like.  I've never counted how many Frozen bows I've got, but there's at least eight of 'em. Don't know what else to say, other than it's cold outside and I'm ready for spring.  Buzz off, Elsa. Frosty love, RagingMoon1987

Oh, look at it rain

Image
Today is a plethora of small obscure holidays, and I don't have a hair bow for a single one.  So once again I'm digging deep into my boxes.  As of the nine o'clock hour it's raining with some lightning accompanying, so I picked a plastic bow that I've worn before (I only have two plastic bows).  Pardon the flash; these transparent bows are hard to photograph.  Etsy shop is perfectprincess .  They're based out of Jackson, Tennessee and as of writing are not taking any orders due to the expected foul weather (it's supposed to snow this weekend). Okay, it IS Kiss a Ginger Day, but I have no one to kiss, let alone a ginger.  I'd almost give my left arm to have someone to love, someone who loves me just as much as I love him, but I'm not bettin' on it.  Not ever.  Anyway, this is the bow I wanted to wear with my jellyfish earrings for Jellyfish Day, but I misplaced the earrings.  Turns out I had them with the bow, but concealed by other bows. Thi...

Shopping season

Image
Yep, it's that time!  Granted, most of the shopping should be winding down since Christmas is literally just around the corner.  This bow is a repeat. I'm now convinced that no subject is too outlandish for a cheer bow.  If It and Doctor Who can be immortalized as cheer bows, I s'pose Amazon can be too. Truth be told, I've never bought from Amazon!  I do love to browse there, but I've never bought...unless the Fidgie Friend I got yesterday came from there.  I bought a couple'a Fidgie Friends off eBay, but Fairie Garden arrived in an Amazon shipper, and her return address was the local Amazon hub so I guess that's where the seller got her.  Oh yes, buying up stock and selling it at a ridiculously jacked-up price!  That's real nice...except I didn't buy Fairie for a ridiculously jacked-up price.  The seller listed the price that Wal-Mart lists, so I dunno. Yeah, I've bought myself Christmas gifts this year.  Not gonna lie.  I got two of '...

The shortest day

Image
The days are short The sun a spark Hung thin between The dark and the dark --John Updike, " January " I know January is still a couple'a weeks away, but with it being the winter solstice I felt it fitting.  To commemorate I present another Frozen bow. As winters go this one has been a mild one so far, but then again it's just getting started!  In December of 2021 it never did get truly cold, and we had hail and tornadoes .  Then last December one of Mama's pipes froze and exploded, so the month truly is a mixed bag for the Bootheel.  Usually it's predictable, but in recent years, not so much.  January is fast becoming much of the same; usually it's windy and cold, but in the past the month has also brought my neck of the woods tornadoes galore.  As much as I hate winter I'd prefer for this part of the year to be more...well, wintry!  March and April can have the tornadoes, thank you! But then again I'd prefer not to have snow up to my neck either...

25,000 twinkle lights

Normally I wouldn't be oot and aboot on a Monday, but today is the library's Christmas party and the whole cotton-pickin' county will be gathered together.  This year will be a tough one, because the librarian at Clarkton died last spring.  She as an absolute dear and the whole county loved her, so her presence will be sorely missed.  Anyway, last year I wore one of my prettier Christmas bows (I'll be wearing that one...sometime this week), but this year I've chosen to be somewhat humorous.  Remember when I said that my family loved Christmas Vacation ?  Well, here's the bow to prove it!  Etsy shop is AutumnsUniqueHairBow . This particular line was uttered by Clark Griswold's father after Clark moved Heaven and Earth to get his Christmas lights to light up.  Hilarity quickly follows when Cousin Eddie and his family show up unannounced, but as with Home Alone I'm not going to give too much away.  Christmas Vacation is NOT a flick for kids due to...
