For the crayons

Image
It's National Crayola Day!  I've got the bow... ...and the baubles.  Blue baubles, to be exact, because they match my jeans and my eyes and the necklace I wear every day. Plain old green has always been my favorite crayon, with Cerulean , Razzmatazz , and Dandelion getting Honorable mention.  It's interesting that what I used to call plain old "green" is called Forest Green by the website I'm using.  Ordinary green is a semi-blinding green screen shade .  Anyway, Razzmatazz was a bright, happy color with a name that made me giggle, while Cerulean was calm and chill with a name that I needed help pronouncing.  I always loved pairing the two when drawing.  Dandelion was a word that my child's mind could read without help, and the crayon did indeed look like my favorite flower.  I'm still not over the fact that Crayola discontinued the Dandelion crayon, by the way.  I like its replacement, a lovely deep blue shade called  Bluetiful , but ...

Try to set the night on fire

The last time I wore this bow it was the anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's death.  This year I wanted his birthday, come hell or high water.  The Starry Night has always made me think of the Doors and " Light My Fire ," LOL.  The stars look like they literally are burning down the night sky.  My bow isn't really a good representation of that, but the reference is clear. I included a pair of earrings that I've not yet worn.  Mama found me those. I wish I could find some accessories to wear that had some of Van Gogh's other paintings on it.  The Starry Night is probably his best known piece, but I'm fond of some of his wheatfield paintings.  I particularly like this one , with storm clouds in the background.  And of course, the vase of sunflowers .  I love that one.   Starry love, RagingMoon1987

Happy little clouds

I'm taking a quick breather from Halloween bows to celebrate another birthday, the birthday of someone I never knew but thought was cool.  Tomorrow would've been Bob Ross's birthday, but tomorrow is Sunday and I rarely have reason to wear a hair bow on Sundays.  Some of y'all may have heard of Bob Ross, the soft-spoken painter on PBS with a gravity-defying hairstyle who threw together painted landscapes in half an hour.  Believe it or not, I have a bow dedicated to him. Etsy shop is RoxysBowtiqueShop , the same shop that did my Beatles and Led Zeppelin bows ( May 26th and August 19th , respectively).  Why they chose to put together a bow devoted to Bob Ross I'll never know, but I won't knock it.  Mr. Ross has been dead since the mid-nineties, but I think every now and then PBS still shows his program.  The calming subject matter and Mr. Ross's soft voice make for a very soothing watch, but I'll admit that like all PBS shows it's not for everyone.  M...

National Coloring Book Day

Image
I was never big on coloring books when I was a little kid, preferring instead to freehand my drawings and let imagination take over.  But for a short while during the height of the JoJo Bow craze there were black and white bows that came with two markers for coloring in, and that's what I've got today. I've got another one like this somewhere with two different markers, so I predict another long weekend coloring in tiny outlines is in my future.  LOL, one weekend last spring Uncle From St. Louis was home for a visit.  It was a lengthy weekend, and I spent most of it guffawing at his stories and coloring in images of unicorns and stars and hearts and bows.  It was...surprisingly relaxing!  I'd put it down thinking that I wanted a break, and then five minutes later I was back to coloring.  The details are small, so my coloring isn't precise, but I did pretty well.  I love the unicorns.  They have such cute faces! I'm not the artist that my sister is...

Starry, starry night

I've been a fan of van Gogh's work for much of my life, and when Mama found me the earrings I knew I needed a bow to match.  The search proved to be like finding the Ark of the Covenant, but I found one that suited my fancy and matched the earrings. This one is yet another Etsy find, from FieryFoxBoutique . Here's the earrings; I've actually got two Starry Night-themed pairs, but these are big and in-your-face.  Plus, I love the pallet. I've never been as mentally ill as Vincent van Gogh was, but I've always related to his paintings more than I do those of any artist.  He painted what he saw, but he painted what he felt as well.  One could see the love he felt for the workers in the wheat field , for the night sky , for the vase of sunflowers ...but at the same time one could sense his own self-loathing as his self-portraits grew darker and darker and darker .   My fondness for van Gogh's work goes back a long time, long before Vince took a spin in the TA...

Jackson Pollock?

Image
I don't celebrate ANY of today's holidays, most of which are for tree-huggers , so I picked something at random.  Paint splatters!  I'm not 100% certain of the Etsy seller, but I think it may be MommysBowCreations . Granted, today IS Oklahoma Day , but I live in Missouri.  I love Oklahoma, but I don't live there.  If any of y'all are from Oklahoma, happy Oklahoma Day!  Anyway, this one was yet another gift from my mom, so I don't know where it came from, but it shows how well Mama knows me.  I love paint, I love colors, I love anything on the unusual side, and this bow fits that bill perfectly. Yeah, I like art.  Splatter painter Jackson Pollock used to be one of my favorite artists, but I do have to wonder:  is Mr. Pollock's work really art???  Under my own definition of art it would not be, because anyone can throw paint at a canvas.  I've always defined "art" as "something that not everyone can do," and...well, like I said, a commo...

Colour my world

It's Crayon Day! It should be no surprise to y'all that I love crayons even now.  When I was very, very little I only had four, in the colors depicted on the bow:  red, blue, yellow, and green.  When I started school I learned that crayons come in many, many other colors, but I digress.  Green was my favorite color as a toddler, and it remains that way now, but for some reason I chose blue earrings to go with the bow. I think I chose blue because I wear blue jeans every day, and blue jewelry matches blue jeans.  Or that's the way I reasoned back in high school.  But for the record, I do love blue; when one is a Moody Blues fan one tends to gravitate towards blue, and I am indeed a fan, LOL.  Heck, I liked blue BEFORE I could tell Justin Hayward from Justin Timberlake (which isn't hard, as one's old and talented and the other is young and does better on SNL than he does as a singer).  But anyway, I got the blue crayons to go with my bow.  Pit...
