The day after the Fourth...usually this is when we start seeing back-to-school crap.  Sooooo... Fooled ya!  Summer still lives!  Shop is Addi Mae's Bowtique .  Mama and I put ourselves on a diet, no ifs, ands, or buts, but she said we can still have a small cone of ice cream every now and then.  So this Saturday that's what we're gonna do.  Sometimes won't nothing do ya but plain ol' vanilla.  Do ya...LOL, do ya, do ya want my love ???  Ice cream and Electric Light Orchestra...what's not to like? Fantastic!!!  This is MY holiday, hands down.  Now...do I wear my American Girl bow, or one of my Barbie bows?  Decisions, decisions... Despite my best efforts I could not find a Cabbage Patch Kid-themed bow.  I could find bows FOR the Kids, but no themed bow for the fat girl who owns almost thirty Kids.  I did find a bow with the Bratz on it, but it was kinda ugly so I didn't get it either.  The Bratz are divisive; even my friends on the doll blog are divided on them, but I associate them with good times.   And now I go to a funeral.  Funzies...not. I prefer my children fricasseed.  LOL, it's Day of the Child, which I guess means my biggest, goofiest bow.  I last wore this one on April 13th of last year . Also one of my heaviest.  This bow is NOT a frequent flier as a result, though it IS cute and well-made.  But yeah, my mom had it out with a pair of children and their Karen mother yesterday, so children are not high on my nice list right now.  Yeah, yeah, I know there's lots of good kids out there, but I'd prefer that they be good over there while I sit here. I haven't worn the baseball bow this season, so here's our old friend from kraftyelves . For the record, today is Babe Ruth Day.  Being a Cardinals fan I'm more into Stan Musial and Ozzie Smith, but I won't knock the Bambino.  Well, maybe I will, since the scoundrel couldn't keep his pants on.  I don't harbor a boatload of respect for folks who cheat on their spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends. Baseball can be a superstitious sport, and one of those superstitions related to Mr. Man-Whore Ruth.  The two that I can think of are the Curse of the Bambino (bestowed on the Red Sox by fans of the man-whore) and the Curse of the Billy Goat (placed on the Cubs by a local tavern owner).  Both the Curse of the Bambino and the Curse of the Billy Goat have since been broken.  The Sox broke their curse in 2004...to my beloved Cardinals, no less.  Their drought...actually began a year before the supposed begin of the curse, in 1919.  Since then they've won one othe...

Today is International Bat Appreciation Day, and I happen to be VERY fond of bats.  Y'all know what that means.  Etsy shop is LavAveHandmade . When I was in college I had a professor who declared anything he liked to be "glorious."  One day we were out in the woods measuring...jeez, I don't remember what, but up on one of the trees there was a wooden house that was definitely not a birdhouse.  I had an idea about what it was, but I asked anyway and Dr. S replied "Oh, that's a bat box.  We're researching bats."  "Ewwww, I don't like bats," another student grimaced.  "Bats are glorious!" According to sources, Barbie's birthday is today.  If she were a real little person she'd be sixty-five. Of course this bow doesn't show my mother's vintage Barbie, the one who I always picture when I think of good ol' Barbie, but as I noted last summer no Barbie bows show the vintage dolls.  Kinda a shame, but then again most vintage doll collectors don't make a habit of wearing hair bows.  The Etsy shop, YellowBellesCreation, appears to be defunct. Like yesterday, this bow is from TchotchkesDesigns . The dreidel game is one that I'd have loved as a kid, because I loved (and still love) tops and because in a lot of versions of the game it's a chance to win chocolate!  If you're avoiding candy then raisins or pennies will suffice, but more often than not the gelt I've seen has been chocolate.  Playing dreidel isn't a necessity during Hanukkah like lighting the candles and saying the prayers is, but it's still a fun tradition.  Tradition, tradition... cue the music . Today is the anniversary of the "Heidi Bowl."  I love football anyway, and it's football season (the Titans aren't doing so well), so I'm wearing a football skin bow.  Etsy shop is kraftyelves , the same bunch that brought y'all my baseball skin bow . Oh, the Heidi Bowl.  For the uninitiated, the Heidi Bowl was a regular old NFL football game between the Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets.  In 1968 the Raiders and the Jets had a rivalry that equaled those between Auburn and Alabama or between the Cardinals and the Cubs.  The resulting game was a donniebrook that ran long in its three-hour time slot.  That was a problem because NBC, who was airing the game, had Heidi scheduled to start at 7 P.M. sharp, and they'd promised Timex (sponsoring the flick) that there would be no delays .  Long story short, NBC cut the game with the Jets ahead and one minute, one second left on the clock.  While football fans were being forced to watch a dumb movie a...

I refer y'all to my post yesterday for my opinions on ice cream.  I love the stuff, but it doesn't love me anymore.  But today is National Ice Cream Sundae day, right on the heels of Strawberry Sundae Day.  What can I say, July is National Ice Cream Month.  Thus I finally get an opportunity to wear this. Today's bow is one of my quirkier ones. I have a photo album on FailBook devoted to these goofy hair bows, and I've kept it a bit longer than I've kept this blog, so my FailBook friends have seen this one before.  But y'all haven't!  The bee in the center is squishy. Little-known fact about me:  I love squishies.  I don't collect them because I have a house full of dolls and teddy bears, but I love squishies.  Squishies and bees together on a hair bow?  Yes, please!  This one came from AMWBowtique , the Etsy shop that I used to love.  I got my Saggy Baggy Elephant bow from there and my Lalaloopsy bow from there, and there's one more that y'all haven't seen (it's loud with streamers like the Lalaloopsy bow).  The bows are extremely well-made and are eye-catching, but be forewarned:  they're also heavy.  LOL, that Lalaloopsy bow is probably my heaviest bow!  But getting back to squishies, I haven't found a duplicate of my bee b...

I know dolls are not everyone's cuppa, so if they freak you out, please refrain from reading further.  I will not be offended.  On the other hand, if you like dolls or if you like Coraline , then these may be the poppets for you.  That said, today's bow is one of my gaudiest and one of my heaviest.  It also pays tribute to my other main hobby, doll collecting.  The figurine is a mini Lalaloopsy doll. If you're a Lalaloopsy fan then you've probably identified the doll.  Her name is April Sunsplash.  According to the Lalaloopsy wiki, April third was her birthday...and also Find a Rainbow Day .  I love rainbows, but I was off work that day.  I don't tend to wear my hair tied up when I'm lazing about in bed. Yep, baseball.  My dad, who loved word play, jokingly called it "basic ball."  The season opens today!  Batter up! Today's bow is made from the skin of a baseball.  Baseball skin hair bows can be found all over Etsy, but my particular bow came from kraftyelves .  It can come in red (CARDINAL NATION, BABY!!!) or in blue if you're...dare I say it...a Cubs fan.  LOL, just kidding!  I don't root for the Cubs, but I don't hate them either, and I do love how devout their fans are!  The Cubs went a long time without winning a World Series, and yet their fans stuck by them and were eventually rewarded for their diligence.  But aaaaanyway, this particular shop sells bows in red and in blue, so if you're a fan of the Colorado Rockies you're outta luck!  Or at least I've never seen one of these baseball skin bows in purple.  Some shops will change colors if you ask them very, very nicely, so never say never.  And if you know someone who p...
