Return of the pumpkin bow

Image
Well, actually this is a different pumpkin bow from the last one I wore . This is another one that my mom surprised me with, and believe you me, I've needed it!  I've been depressed since the beginning of the month, and I can't seem to shake it.  Both Mama's house and mine need renovations, and we're kinda, sorta, REALLY strapped for cash, and we've got a lot to do before we can even think about professional work, so I'm feeling overwhelmed.  It's nothing that can't be fixed, but I don't like it.  Not one little bit. Now pumpkins, I like.  I can take or leave pumpkin pie, but pumpkins in general I like.  They're such a bright, happy shade of orange, and they're very useful.  One can eat the seeds when they're roasted, and one can eat the rind in any number of ways.  There was even a scene in one of the Little House books where Caroline Ingalls cut up a green pumpkin and made a pie out of it.  Apparently when cooked and seasoned it ta...

Jack o'lanterns are like snowflakes

No two are ever the same!  Unless they're the printed kind. Etsy shop this time is littlechiccollection , and I think that shop specializes in Halloween because I ordered this bow back on April 14th and there was nothing BUT Halloween stuff!  Not that that's a bad thing, of course!  Yes, mass-produced jack o'lanterns tend to look the same, but the real deal...oh gosh, folks can go hog-wild!  In my family Daddy was always in charge of carving the jack o'lanterns, and usually we'd have three:  one with a design Mama picked, one that Sister and I had to agree on (I usually let her pick since I liked all the designs), and one that had a cat on it.  Daddy always had to make at least one cat, and one year we had three cats because we all picked a different cat pattern!  Another year Daddy was asked to cut jack o'lanterns for our church's Halloween shindig.  Daddy rose to the challenge with several Christian-themed designs that greatly pleased churchgoer...

NOW it's Pumpkin Spice Season

Image
I'm actually not the biggest fan of pumpkin spice anything, but I won't knock it either.  Of all my fall-themed bows, this one is my favorite by far. Mama got this one for me, as she often does.  It's dominantly orange, but it's also got blue, green, and red in the mix, so it goes with a number of my favorite shirts. Yes, fall is already moving in around here.  Wal-Mart has had the pumpkins and the chrysanthemums out for a couple'a weeks.  The pumpkins aren't huge, but they're very pretty and would make good jack o'lanterns. Here's what the mums look like.  They're not big either, but they're a lot perkier than they were last week. I love chrysanthemums!  They used to depress me because they were the last flowers my bitch of a grandmother grew before winter, but now I like 'em.  My favorites are the rust-colored ones, though it's hard to pick.  The cream-colored ones are pretty, the yellow ones are pretty, and the purple ones are pret...
