I've never watched 30 Rock

Image
Nope, never watched 30 Rock .  I don't know what the premise of the program is.  Hell, I don't recognize the names or faces of any of the actors except Alec Baldwin, and I can't stand him.  But according to those loserds on 30 Rock blue and yellow are the colors to wear on Leap Day.  Etsy shop is LittleBelleBowtique . St. Louis Blues colors!  My mom is particularly fond of this one, though I daresay she likes all of my bows to some extent.  I just like the color combo; blue and yellow has always been one of my favorite combinations.  But truth be told, I like yellow with just about everything. Happy Leap Day, RagingMoon1987

In a normal year...

Image
In a normal year this would be the last day of February, but this year is not a normal year.  February's birthstone is the amethyst, so I opted for my beloved purple pom-pom bow.  Etsy shop is one of my favorites, Tulazohairbows . I've shown this one twice here, I b'lieve...no, only once, apparently.  I last wore this bow on September 9th in honor of my sister's birthday.  But let's face it, purple is awesome (or I think it is), and like green I don't need a reason to wear purple.  I used to tease the bejesus out of my sister about purple being ugly, and she gave as good as she took, but it was all just us being ornery.  I always think of my sister when I wear purple. It should probably be no surprise, therefore, that I like amethyst.  None of my immediate family were born in February so no one wore the lovely purple stone in their earlobes or on their fingers, but that won't stop me, LOL.  Seriously, I wear a sapphire on my ring finger, even though my birt

National Strawberry Day

Image
As spring inches ever closer, I wear more of my spring/summer bows.  Besides, it's National Strawberry Day.  I love strawberries.  To my considerable surprise I've not yet worn this bow; the shop is TwinsCraftSupplies . I wonder why they're called strawberries when they don't grow on the plants that make straw???  They don't jeehaw well with drinking straws either, as strawberry milkshake fans will attest.  But regardless of the name strawberries are pretty awesome...unless one is allergic to them, that is.  Yep, strawberry allergies are real. Strawberry season is a long way off yet, so I wonder why National Strawberry Day is today.  Oh sure, I can get a carton of 'em at the grocery store, but killecrankie, have y'all seen the prices on fresh fruit???  I'm a spendthrift and will thus buy strawberries whenever I please, but the prices make me want to...well, NOT please! Strawberry love, RagingMoon1987

Another random one

Image
Today was another crap shoot bow.  LOL, I need to get a bow with some dice on it so I truly WILL have a crap shoot bow! Hey, more unicorns!  LOL, this JoJo Bow is one that I tend to forget about, but with the lovely colors and the cute motifs I really shouldn't.  With the week I've had I need all the positivity I can get. Yes, it's been a week for the ages.  Every day at least one loony has come into the library and driven us nuts, or Mama or I made a colossal blunder, or Mama or I lost something and had to move Heaven and Earth to find it.  I'm dreading what today might bring, but I'm trying to stay positive too.  Since it's Saturday maybe it'll be chill. FML

Image
So far every day this week has either begun or ended with a big FML moment.  Yesterday was the worst so far, so I'm hoping maybe a unicorn will offer me some luck. Yeah, I figure a unicorn appearing in my life is about as likely as the perfect man appearing, but it doesn't stop the bow from being cute.  And with the good Lord on my side I don't need unicorns anyway. But they're still fun to wear! Love, RagingMoon1987

Another one of THOSE days

Image
I actually like THOSE days, the days were there's no goofy holiday or anything.  Days like to day mean that I can wear whatever hair bow I choose.  Today the weather is supposed to be bad, so I opted for one of my plastic bows.  Etsy shop is LeahBowsCreations . It's transparent, and thus the bows from April 19th and November 22nd are clearly visible.  Maybe a plain background would be better in this case. Yeah, definitely better.  I have two plastic bows, one blue and one green, and today I chose the green one .  It hasn't seen daylight since last April.  It's not the most comfortable bow since it's pretty stiff, but it also doesn't catch the wind and pull my hair when the wind blows like my bigger bows do.  Yeah, went through that song and dance a few months ago when one of Mama's dogs decided to die on a very cold, very windy day.  Thank God she was a little dog. That's about all I have to say today.  A no-frills bow equals a no-frills post. Love, Ra

America's gentleman

I was unaware that Boston terriers had their own day, but they do.  It was unfortunately on the nineteenth, but if you love Boston terriers then you don't need a reason to celebrate.  Etsy shop this time is SouthernClassicBows . Boston terriers have smushed faces like pugs and the various bulldogs, so some folks deride the breed as ugly.  But if you grew up with one, like my mother and I both did, it's impossible to see the ugliness in the breed.  Funny-looking?  Yes, but we don't find the little goobers ugly.  My family has owned two, and they were both easygoing, fun-loving dogs...unless they had reason not to be easygoing.  When I was very, very small some a-hole broke into our house, and Brandy, the Boston terrier we had at the time, bit the snot out of him.  The prick had kicked Brandy and shut her up in a bedroom while he tried to unplug the TV, and then Daddy came home and caught him in the act!  Daddy couldn't catch the would-be thief, but he released Brandy and

One of my first

Image
This one was one of my first bows, along with my Nutcracker bow and my green Christian bow. I'm a doll collector now, but when I was a small child my favorite toys were Matchbox cars, dinosaurs, and Legos.  I never bothered to follow the instructions; I just built all sorts of trippy contraptions and make up goofy stories that made no sense but were fun to make up.  I loved the little men that came with the sets too.  They had a Bart Simpson vibe about them since they were all yellow back then, but I liked 'em.  I still like 'em.  I have a small collection of the figures, allegedly to use as props for my American Girls. Why the Big Bad Wolf is a Lego figure I'll never know, but I'm not gonna hate. Block hearts, RagingMoon1987

Star-spangled ice cream

Image
At the behest of my mother I selected this bow today, one with rainbow stars and an ice cream motif in the center. I don't know why Mama likes this particular bow, but she does.  It's probably the colors, LOL.  Or maybe she remembers that I liked stars when I was in high school.  Everyone who knew me back then knew that I loved stars, especially shooting stars. At the time I liked ice cream too.  I still do, but back then I couldn't get enuff of the stuff.  Back during my teenage years our local Sonic was halfway decent (now the service sucks), and any celebration was call for ice cream of some sort.  My sister...I actually don't remember if my sister liked ice cream or not!  We were always so different!  But I loved ice cream.  I still do, but if I eat a lot of it at one time I get sick to my stomach. I never need an excuse to wear green

Image
No, I never need a reason, but green is for gallbladder cancer (and likely gallbladder health in general), and today is World Cholangiocarcinoma Day. My mother had her gallbladder removed two and a half years ago, and let me tell y'all, that was one hellish summer.  I had to take care of my own house, my mother's house, my mother, AND work, and I was so run-down that a very sick patron asked me if I was alright.  Yep, y'all read that right.  The patron (one of my favorites) was herself very ill, and she asked me if I was alright.  Indeed, that patron died recently, probably of lung fibroids.  If her lungs weren't giving her fits her liver was, so it was just a matter of time before one of 'em got her, but I still miss that patron.  Anyway, Mama had a terrible summer that year due to her gallbladder, but she survived and will thus never have to worry about cholangiocarcinoma.  But I DO have a gallbladder still.  Thankfully, cholangiocarcinoma is rare, though it does

How I REALLY feel about Valentine's Day

Image
It's pointless if no one loves you.  Oh sure, I've got family and I've got the Lord, but it gets frightfully lonesome without a better half.  Since I'm an overweight, frowsy, asexual chatterbox with moderately conservative leanings and a number of niche hobbies, I doubt I'll find anyone.  Hence my hair bow with snarky conversation hearts.  This bow is rated "R" for salty language, but I've worn it to work twice before and no one said anything.  Etsy shop is NerdyFashionistaShop . The messages on these hearts also sum up my feelings for conversation hearts in general.  I hate those nasty things; they've always tasted like chalk with a tiny bit of sugar mixed in.  I think back to Gordon Ramsay's description of Smarties (he describes them as a combination of aspirin and Tums ), and I wonder what his opinion on conversation hearts is.  LOL, I'd love to hear it!  I personally am not a huge fan of Smarties, but they're a helluva lot better th

Fat Tuesday!

Image
While the girls in N'awlins are traipsing around trading bare boobies for plastic beads, I'm rocking a big bow. I've actually got two of these, LOL.  Mama liked 'em, so she got one one year, and then the second another year.  They she'd glitter like mad, but they're comfortable.  As for Mardi Gras...well, I'm not a big partier, but I'd love to attend at least one festival, just to say I've done it.  Daddy told me once that Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida hold smaller festivals than the huge one in New Orleans.  I don't know if that's true, but if it IS true I wanna go.  Happy Fat Tuesday, RagingMoon1987

Love is blue

Image
Today's bow is a repeat , but it's a pretty bow so oh well.  On this day in 1968 one of my mother's favorite songs, Paul Mauriat's " Love is Blue ," hit #1 on charts.   Blue is my second-favorite color after green, so I have a lot of blue bows.  I tend to feel lonely around Valentine's Day, and my allergies are making me feel lousy today, so blue is a good color for me at this point.  But then again, I like blue even when I'm NOT feeling lonesome. I forget what year it was, but around 2004 or 2005 blue was the favorite color of Americans; apparently someone else who doesn't have a life did a survey.  Green and purple were second and third favorites respectively.  I was pleased about that; I loved and still love green, and my sister loved and still loves purple.  Funnily, neither of us really know why we picked our respective colors.  I just remember there being something very special about the green crayon.  But by jove, if I wanted blue I wanted b

Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Image
My vote is for yes, but you do you.  As Garfield once pointed out, no one can EVER agree on pizza toppings .  LOL, today is National Pizza Day.  Shop is KallieBowCo . What aliens have to do with pizza, I don't know, but I love the juxtaposition.  If Pizza Hut is to be believed, it was extraterrestrial pizza-cutter aliens who made stuffed crust pizza popular, so there's that, I guess.  LOL, I loved those Pizza Head commercials! I don't know really what to say about pizza, except that there is a fanbase devoted enuff to have their own magazine.  Dolly fans, knitters, Whovians, and railfans all have their own magazines, and apparently so do pizza fans.  PMQ Pizza Magazine is who I turn to on the rare occasion when I need info on pizza, LOL.  In September of 2011 they ran an interesting article on the pizza joints that were wiped out by the then-recent Joplin tornado, discussing everything from Pizza Hut to the local mom 'n' pop shops.  The Pizza Hut on Range Line Ro

More of the same

Yet another unicorn bow, and an uber-sparkly one at that! In truth these springlike colors have been perfect for the kind of weather the center of the country has been having.  As of writing it's already fifty-two degrees Fahrenheit, and it's predicted to get warmer.  Then as always the weather's gonna change; it's supposed to rain all weekend.  Oh well, I like rain. Love, RagingMoon1987

More pink...

Image
...and more lavender.  But hey, at least there's unicorns! MGA Entertainment once ran a line of customizable Bratz, and they included an insert in their package that declared their new owner ruled more than unicorns.  While I'm flattered by such sentiment, unicorns set the bar pretty high when it comes to ruling.  I think the two earthly beings that can outdo a unicorn are a pegasus or a dragon.  Dragons reign supreme! Funny, I never thought to look for a dragon bow, and it's a Year of the Dragon.  I may have to see what I can do about that.  The Chinese dragon was one of the most kick-a$$ Beanie Babies ever, by the way.  That whole Chinese Zodiac set was cool, but the dragon was my favorite.  This is him.  My dad was born in 1952, so the dragon was his critter. Being a product of 1987, I'm a rabbit (as is my mother).  My sister is a goat.  Unicorns sadly have no part in the Chinese Zodiac. Love, RagingMoon1987

Girly!

Image
Yep, you can't get more stereotypically girly than this one! Pink, purple, and a teensy bit of blue, plus rhinestones and a light-up element.  This bow is heavy due to said lighting mech, and the pairing with the overly feminine colors means that it's not a favorite of mine.  But given the closeness of Valentine's Day I may as well get some mileage out of it. My favorite and unfavorite bows make me think of Tsarina Alexandra.  The last tsarina was the one with the Faberge eggs, and she had one that she...didn't care much for.  That one was the Coronation Egg , one of the prettier ones.  Tsarina Alexandra apparently associated that egg with the stampede that occurred during her husband's coronation, referred to as the Khodynka tragedy .  The Dowager Empress, Maria, also had a favorite and an unfavorite egg, and like her daughter-in-law she associated her unfavorite egg with bad memories.  That one was the Memory of Azov Egg .  The Order of St. George Egg was apparen

Happy birthday, Elmo!

Image
Yep, his birthday is today, though denizens of Sesame Street never seem to age.  This bow was a freebie from AbbeysAlley , one that came with my other Sesame Street bow . Elmo is not my favorite muppet, but I don't hate him either.  Indeed, I get why he's so popular nowadays, years after he moved to Sesame Street.  But I could ask ten different people who their favorite Sesame Street muppet is and get ten different answers, so there you go.  As I've said before, Oscar the Grouch is my fellow.  He's kinda an a-hole, but he tells it like it is when it needs to be done.  Oscar's birthday is June 1st.  But today, it's all about the little red guy. Happy birthday, Elmo! Love, RagingMoon1987

A political bow

Image
Happy Groundhog Day, y'all!  I don't know why, but I've always loved Groundhog Day.  Maybe I love it simply because I think groundhogs are cool.  There are plenty of 'em living around here, I know that much! Yeah, I'm white and moderately conservative.  I wore a Trump bow last summer and I'll wear it again, but I also know that racism is sadly alive and well in this day and age, AND NOT ALL OF THE RACISTS SUPPORT TRUMP.  Some of 'em are vitriolically against him, in fact.  But that aside, I've got black brothers and sisters in Christ that I love dearly, and I want 'em to know it.  I also think it's important that the Afro-American youngsters I know know about their past, how it was ugly at times, but how some of their forefathers did great things.  George Washington Carver is always the example I give to local children, but oh, there are plenty of others. Regarding the bow itself, this bow is the main reason why I think the Wrong Box was intended

It's...THAT time again

Image
Yeah, I've been wearing heart bows for a few days now, but for me the season of valentines doesn't begin until today.  Being single means that the first two weeks of February are a lonely affair for me, but I can still wear cute hair bows.  This one is your typical JoJo Bow, and it's got her doggie BowBow on it. Yum, pink and red reminds me of chocolate-covered cherries!  Those only seem to come out around Valentine's Day, much to my chagrin.  I could easily eat my weight in those things...before they make me throw up, that is.  Too much chocolate can do that.  In my case too much chocolate will give me the trots before it'll make me throw up, but neither one is fun.  Alas, I will not be indulging in chocolate-covered cherries this year.  I had some troubling chest pains on January twenty-third, and I don't want to die before I reach forty so I've dropped the sweets and the junk food for the most part.  It's a good thing I love raw vegetables.  When East
