The Bow Belle

According to multiple sources, the titular Blue has a birthday today.  Etsy shop is JoyJoeyKangaroo . I was WAAAAY too old for Blue's Clues when it started airing, but I loved and still love the innocence of it.  Basically you had Steve, a dopey young man who owned Blue, a not-so-dopey blue dog.  Blue would want something done, and she'd make Steve (and the viewing audience) guess what it was by marking clues with her pawprints.  Each show incorporated three clues and featured a number of side routines like receiving the mail and helping a friend out with some task.  For the most part it was just simple crap; Blue wanted a special story read for her naptime, or snow was falling and Blue wanted to do something particular, or Steve had a cold and Blue knew something special that would help him recover.  I loved it...except that in the beginning Nick Jr would show the same episode all week.  I'm pretty sure I understand why; there was probably a limited ...

Today is the anniversary of yet another violent tornado outbreak, and also World Geek Day.  I assume that Whovians fall on the geek spectrum, so out comes one of my big bows.  Etsy shop is AandMsBOWtique ; I need to tell the shop owner that this bow has received a lot of compliments. It also helps that Uncle From St. Louis is home for the weekend, and he's the only other Whovian in the family.  I'm dying to ask him what he thinks of Number Fourteen.  For me no one will top Number Eleven, but that's just my opinion. Today is Twilight Zone Day.  I would celebrate by embarking on a marathon...but alas, I have no TV.  I do, however, have my bow from December 30th . Since I'm fond of The Twilight Zone I predict this bow will get a lot of wear, just as my Pac-Man bow has.  Truthfully a lot of my bows from DollfaceDesignss get a lot of mileage since they're comfortable, not too big, and not too small. It's also National Train Day, but I've yet to find a hair bow that's train-themed.  I show my allegiance to trains with my Chessie System badges.  LOL, I can remember seeing Chessie System rolling stock when I was little and thinking "That mark looks just like a kitty cat!"  This is what the mark looks like; it's a stylized letter C. Turns out that the C IS a kitty cat!  Chessie is her name , and in the original artwork she was your everyday tabby cat, the kind everyone has seen or owned at least once, the kind whose surname would be "Smith" or "Jones....

Time to drag out the Sith bow again.  This one hasn't seen the light of day since LAST May 4th , which is sad.  I could wear this bow with just about anything I want.  Etsy shop is PreciousWonderland . Another year has gone by without me watching the Star Wars films.  As I've said in the past I have absolutely nothing against it, but I still couldn't tell Tattoine from Skaro...yeah, probably I could.  Skaro is crawling with Daleks and they're impossible to miss.   Sweeping change of subject, the Kentucky Derby is being held today, so my prayers are with the jockeys and the horses.  Despite what PETA might tell you, those horses get treated better than a lot of humans do.  But...accidents happen, like they did with Barbaro and Ruffian and goodness knows who else, so I always pray for the well-being of those horses. Today is Live Long and Prosper Day, but I'm not big enuff of a Star Trek fan to have one of the bows.  Not yet, anyway; I certainly have nothing against Star Trek , and I love that fiasco with the Tribbles.  The Doctor captured me with ease, so I reckon First Officer Spock can too if I let him.  By the way, when I was a little kid Spock gave me the creeps; there was a poster in the old library with him on it, and I did everything I could to avoid it.  Rambling aside, no Star Trek bow today.  I picked something at random, something I haven't worn in awhile.  VeryShine is the Etsy shop this time; I last wore this bow in September . It's Hufflepuff Pride Day!  My beloved Hufflepuff bow gets another spin.  Etsy shop is LittleLondonBowtique . It turns out that Hufflepuffs are often experts in Herbology, which is fitting for me because I want to start studying herbalism...and foraging too, since a lot of the stuff I'm after grows in the wild.  I'll discuss that further in another post; for now I'll just say that I'm thankful for dandelions and henbit.  I wonder if there's any medicinal uses for kudzu???  If there is I'll let y'all know! Yep, his birthday is today, though denizens of Sesame Street never seem to age.  This bow was a freebie from AbbeysAlley , one that came with my other Sesame Street bow . Elmo is not my favorite muppet, but I don't hate him either.  Indeed, I get why he's so popular nowadays, years after he moved to Sesame Street.  But I could ask ten different people who their favorite Sesame Street muppet is and get ten different answers, so there you go.  As I've said before, Oscar the Grouch is my fellow.  He's kinda an a-hole, but he tells it like it is when it needs to be done.  Oscar's birthday is June 1st.  But today, it's all about the little red guy. On this day in 1953, Lucy Ricardo went to the hospital to have Little Ricky.  Etsy shop is RoxysBowtiqueShop . My mother is the family's I Love Lucy fan, but I like the show too.  My favorite clip is this one, where Lucy annihilates several home movies and hilarity ensues.  I've even got a couple'a the dolls.  There were a bajillion I Love Lucy dolls during my adolescence, and I've got these two. Once upon a time the Sci-Fi Channel ran marathons of The Twilight Zone during Independence Day, and again during the new year.  We don't bother watching much nowadays because big pieces of each episode are cut to cram in more commercials, but for a long time my family did watch and we loved every second of it.  Y'all know where I'm going with this.  The Etsy shop is one of my favorites, DollfaceDesignss . Yep, today's bow pays tribute to one/two of my favorite Christmas movies AND to one of my family's traditions.  First, the bow, another off-beat piece from DollfaceDesigns . Often the first thing my family did when we came home from Thanksgiving dinner was take a long nap, and after that we'd pop in a Christmas movie.  We had quite a few that we would watch yearly, some funny and some serious.  National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is my all-time favorite, but I also loved the first two installments of the Home Alone franchise.  Indeed, I think that of all the movies I've watched, Home Alone and Home Alone 2 take the award for most dysfunctional family.  The families in Christmas Vacation and The Santa Clause are nothing to write home about, but the McCallister family takes the cake.  The kids are all a bunch of brats, the parents spend much of both movies with their heads up their butts, and the extended family (particularly Uncle Frank) is just plai...

Today is the anniversary of the "Heidi Bowl."  I love football anyway, and it's football season (the Titans aren't doing so well), so I'm wearing a football skin bow.  Etsy shop is kraftyelves , the same bunch that brought y'all my baseball skin bow . On this day in 2016 the movie Trolls was released here in the U.S., so I figure now is as good a time as any to wear this bow. This one showed up in the Wrong Box from AdorasBowsStore last summer.  The flash caught on the bottle cap bit, so here's a better look at the center. For the uninitiated, that's Chase from Paw Patrol .  Paw Patrol is a children's program about a little boy and his team of search and rescue dogs.  Fitting considering the mess in Florida and Georgia this morning.  Anyway, each of the dogs has a special job to do and a special appearance to go along with said job.  Chase is second fiddle to the boy and is a police officer.  In recent years backlash against the Fuzz has been strong due to a handful of bad cops doing bad things, and some on the left wanted Chase written out of the show.  That was YEARS ago now, but...well, I've got the bow so why not continue to wear it? Long live Paw Patrol !  They got picked up for another season earlier this year, so it doesn't look like Chase and company are going anywhere. Love, RagingMoon1987 

On this day in 1994 one of my favorite Disney movies was released.  For that, I present my sister's childhood friend, Simba. Oh, The Lion King is special to me for so many reasons.  It was the first movie that made me both laugh and cry, because who DOESN'T cry when Mufasa gets killed???  I was used to death and loss in Disney movies, having seen both Bambi and Dumbo , but one doesn't actually see Bambi's mother get killed, and Dumbo eventually gets reunited with his mother.  So that was a first for me.  Then there's the music, done by the one and only Sir Elton John, whose music I love.  Had no idea who the guy was when I was little, but when "Circle of Life" kicked in my attention was captured.  I loved the whole score, and I even waltzed around the playground more than once singing "Hakuna Matata" (I read once that Elton John HATED writing music for "Hakuna Matata"), but " Circle of Life " was and still is my favorite son...

I think I've established this in the past, but I identify as a Hufflepuff.  This one came from LittleLondonBowtique . Truth be told, I don't really feel like I'd have fit in ANYWHERE at Hogwarts!  Gryffindor requires bravery and I'm a sniveling coward.  Ravenclaw requires intelligence, and I'm...well, I'm not stupid, but I'm not a genius either.  I'm not ruthless enuff to belong to Slytherin.  So by default I sorted myself into Hufflepuff.  It's all in good fun anyway, LOL. I think I said this in my post about the Marauder's Map bow that my sister is an out-and-proud Slytherin.  I can remember us discussing the houses at Hogwarts as teenagers, and she said, casually as all get-out, "I'm a Slytherin.  I'm not the least bit ashamed of it."  I remember laughing and saying "Yeah, that fits you!"  It was hilarious.  My mom, as always, shook her head and said "I have no idea what you two are talking about."  LOL, ...

Finally, the saga of the lemonade bow is complete!  As y'all have probably noticed, a lot of my nicer bows are gifts from my mother, and that is the case today.  She ordered several bows from one store at the beginning of May, and before too long the package she ordered was on the way...or so Mama thought.  A day before the box arrived Mama received a message from the seller warning her that the box she was about to receive contained the wrong order.  The seller reassured Mama that she'd make it right, and long story short, she did.  So now I have two boxes full of hair bows, and since the first one had the wrong order it was sort of a blind box opening.  Toy fans tend to like blind box items, and I am a toy fan, so this excited me.  Here's my first glimpse of the contents of the wrong box.  Presumptive store is  AdoraBowsStore , which was already one of my favorite shops. Sounds like something the Doctor would've said to one of his crazy friends, but it's actually a quote from one of my dad's favorite movies. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is probably the last flick I'd picture being immortalized as a hair bow, but the proprietors of DollfaceDesigns tends to think out of the box.  For the uninitiated, the titular Mrs. Muir is Lucy Muir, a young British widow who moves into a large house by the sea, accompanied by her young daughter and her housekeeper.  Unbeknownst to Lucy, the house is haunted by the ghost of a seafarer, and...well, they fall in love and the story goes from there.  My father, six-foot-two and three hundred pounds, was not one to cry easily (indeed, I saw him cry exactly once), but when The Ghost and Mrs. Muir came on TV one day he warned me "Better sit in front of me, Sarah.  This movie often makes me cry."  So I did, and so we enjoyed the flick.  Indeed, it has its emotional moments, as well as a few moments t...
