An impossible find

Image
In the past I've mentioned of the impossibility in finding a hair bow with a tornado theme or a train theme.  Underdog sadly proved elusive as well, but I never talked about that until now.  To that sad trifecta I'll add the candy that everyone I know either loves or can't eat, Reese's.  Today is I Love Reese's Day, among other things. Probably if I'd asked the right person I could've had a custom bow, but this orange and yellow number does the job just fine.  Etsy shop is BeccasBowsAndMoreUS . I don't know how many of y'all can eat Reese's, but Mama and I have been eating the ones with caramel a lot lately.  Never would've thunk that caramel and peanut butter would go well together, but they do. Sweet love, RagingMoon1987

Easter snuck up on me! I hate it when Easter comes early!  When it comes early it can often mean rain, cold weather, even snow.  When I was very, very little that meant either no Easter egg hunt at all or one inside.  Not that that wasn't fun, of course!  I distinctly remember Easter of 1994, which fell on April third and was wet and rainy.  I was already a tornado buff at the time and found it fitting that April third would be stormy , but I digress.  Mama and Daddy had hidden the plastic Easter eggs in the living room for my sister and me to find, and oh, what fun we had hiding and rehiding those eggs.  And of course there was the candy and toys in our baskets to make us good and hyper, and The Tale of the Bunny Picnic was on one of the kids' channels so there was that to enjoy.  LOL, I still like that opening song! As I grew older my family started going to church again, and Easter consisted of wearing a new outfit if the weather was nice enuf...

How I REALLY feel about Valentine's Day

Image
It's pointless if no one loves you.  Oh sure, I've got family and I've got the Lord, but it gets frightfully lonesome without a better half.  Since I'm an overweight, frowsy, asexual chatterbox with moderately conservative leanings and a number of niche hobbies, I doubt I'll find anyone.  Hence my hair bow with snarky conversation hearts.  This bow is rated "R" for salty language, but I've worn it to work twice before and no one said anything.  Etsy shop is NerdyFashionistaShop . The messages on these hearts also sum up my feelings for conversation hearts in general.  I hate those nasty things; they've always tasted like chalk with a tiny bit of sugar mixed in.  I think back to Gordon Ramsay's description of Smarties (he describes them as a combination of aspirin and Tums ), and I wonder what his opinion on conversation hearts is.  LOL, I'd love to hear it!  I personally am not a huge fan of Smarties, but they're a helluva lot better th...

Alright, ya big candy cane!

Image
I found this on September 15th, believe it or not.  It stood out in bold relief against all the black, orange, and purple that was available for Halloween. I don't know about y'all, but when Christmas rolled around we had the tree that we always decorated, and mixed in with the bubble lights, the Kansas City Chiefs ornaments, and the tinsel garlands, there were usually about a dozen candy canes.  I don't care so much for candy canes now, but when you're a little kid any candy is good candy, and those candy canes never made it to December 25th. Oh, decking the halls was one of my favorite things when I was a kid.  Sometimes we started immediately after Thanksgiving, and sometimes we waited until the first weekend in December, but regardless of when we started the routine was the same.  Mama would light sweet-smelling candles, bust out the cookies and the Coca-Cola, and we'd all get to work.  To get us in the spirit Daddy would play appropriate music, and since hi...

I hate candy corn

Image
And yet here I have it on my bow.  This one is a new-to-me bow, one that I bought pre-used off of eBay.  I don't usually like pre-used bows because you never know what kind of cooties they might be carrying, but in this case I made an exception.   This one is one of my few bows that lights up.  I used to have more that lit up like this, but the batteries went blooey and they're sadly the irreplaceable kind.  The candy corn lights up in three colors, but it's such a quick shift that I could only photograph the one color. No, I never have liked candy corn.  I like the aesthetic of it, and obviously I like jewelry and trinkets that have it on them, but the candy itself is too sweet for me.  Mama loves the stuff.  The more power to her; at least she doesn't have to share, LOL!  Every year around this time I re-watch Gordon Ramsay's schtick on Jimmy Kimmel Live about five treats NOT to give out on Halloween and I giggle, partly because I th...

Fancy a jellybean?

Image
No thanks, I'm good.  I positively loathe jellybeans...unless they're on my hair bow. Mama hauled off and surprised me with three huge hair bows shortly after the beginning of May.  Two of 'em are patriotic, and the third one is this one, my jellybean bow.  Even though I don't particularly care for jellybeans, I love the colors!  It's a nice big bow too, exactly 7.75 inches across.  Okay, I lie a little bit about jellybeans.  I'm just VERY.  VERY.  PICKY.  I like the Starburst-brand jellybeans, and certain flavors of Jelly Belly (peach is my favorite).  Peach is just about my favorite anything, LOL.   Funny story about jellybeans.  After a story got loose in England about George Harrison and his fondness for Jelly Babies (a softer confection that isn't available stateside), well-meaning fans started throwing the sweets at George and the rest of the Beatles.  News travels fast, and when the Beatles started playing Amer...

Green, green, green

Image
Today's bow is a plain green bow, albeit with multiple loops and a gold center.  Green, green, green, just like the officials on NASCAR tracks will chant when the green light comes on after a caution. The earrings are the interesting bit; they're obvious gummy worms.  These came from pokkuruStudio . Green and blue, my two favorite colors.  I like gummy worms too, but I have to be in the mood for 'em.  My favorite flavor is...whatever flavor the clear ones are supposed to be...no wait, that's gummy BEARS.  I love clear gummy bears.  Anyway, my mom hates gummy candy; whenever I offer her a gummy worm I get the same response:  "EWWWWW, no thank you!"  Well, Mama, now you know how I feel about candy corn and circus peanuts (she loves those)!  I will admit that gummy candies can be more fun to look at than to eat, with the way their bright colors sparkle in the light.  Mama would always warn me as a kid, "Don't cram too many of those in your ...

More Easter stuff

Image
This one is one of those that came in a pair.  I may use the other one on one of my dolls, though these are big enuff that that would look kinda stupid. Time to share some Easter memories, since I love to tell stories.  Interestingly, my family was not churchgoing when I was small.  We believed very strongly in Jesus, but we were incredibly lazy.  But my mama wasn't too lazy to sometimes put on Easter egg hunts for us kids.  I distinctly remember one time, when I was about two or three, when she and Daddy did just that.  It was a gorgeous day, they'd set out plastic eggs in the backyard, and Mama led me by the hand to the various hiding places.  Now I was a child of simple pleasures; often my favorite toys were empty thread spools to roll around, film containers (y'all remember those?) to hide small things in, and brightly colored items like plastic Easter eggs.  Thus most of my eggs were empty, but a few did have loose change inside or Matchbox c...

Not too much longer

Image
Yesterday I wore my jelly bow and it didn't rain a drop.  Today I wore a bow that ISN'T jelly, and it's pouring!  That said, Easter/Resurrection Day isn't too far off!  Here's my bow for today; it's Peeps-themed! Some of these came in pairs and are presumably meant to top pigtails (or dog ears, as some of my older friends call them), but I don't have enuff hair for pigtails anymore, and they always looked kinda dumb on me anyway.  Go figure; my favorite American Girl doll looks great in pigtails.  Notice that she too is clad in bows; I hate bare rubber bands on doll hair...and people hair too, for that matter. Maybe Rita Cheryl's pigtails look better than mine because her hair is thicker than mine.  If you part my hair you can see clean through to my scalp.  My hair has always been thin; when I was a teenager it was so bad that during summertime I'd take a small paintbrush and paint sunblock on my part so that I wouldn't have a line of sunburn on...
