Another one of...those

Image
I once eschewed these unicorn face bows as tacky, but here's another one! In addition to being a unicorn, this one is tie-dyed...sort of.  It's got a gradient of soft colors that makes me think of tie-dyed stuff.  The pink flower in the center even matches one of my new spring blouses.   That's it for the week!  Kinda fitting that I'd wear a rainbow-colored bow on a rainy day. Happy weekend, RagingMoon1987

More green

Image
I think this one was...either the third or the fourth green bow that I got.  One from Hobby Lobby, two as gifts, and this one...yep, fourth! I don't often wear this one because it's stiff.  I say that about a lot of my bows, LOL!  Stiff bows don't fit well over my ponytail, and because of that they tend to jut out in goofy directions.  But stiff or no this one is a pretty one, and it deserves more wear.  Plus, my mama likes it.  LOL again, she usually does like my bows anyway. Catch a falling star

Image
Especially if it's pink and shiny! In truth this one is actually a bit girly for my tastes, but then again, I was a girl not too long ago.  I stopped falling under the "girl" category when I turned thirty, but no biggie.  Yeah, this bow is one I don't wear too often, mainly because I don't have much that goes with it.  I don't wear a lot of pale blue or purple OR pale pink, even though I love all three colors.  And I avoid white like the plague, because I always manage to get white dirty. On the other hand, stars are a motif that I love dearly, particularly shooting stars.  When I was a teenager I dotted my lowercase I's and J's with little stars, and if I was signing my signature I included a shooting star...or two...or three!!!  I loved stars enuff that I got one tattooed on my leg.  In a way I related to the stars in the heavens, and I still do.  I want to shine.  I don't want to stand out and be the only one, necessarily, but I want to be there

Pretzel Day!

Image
I love me a big soft pretzel, and I also like the various flavors of Snyder's of Hanover pretzel bits.  I particularly like the buffalo-flavored ones, but those don't always like me, LOL.  But yeah, it's a good day to celebrate.  Oh yes, and this, from BowtifulDreamer . Joining the pretzel bow are the beer earrings, because who doesn't love beer and pretzels? Okay, not everyone loves beer, and not everyone loves pretzels, but to me they're a pretty good match.  Kinda like Coke and Oreos, LOL.  Oh, pretzels and I go back a long way, and one particular type of pretzel has a darkly humorous and revolting story behind it.  If you puke easily, skip to the next paragraph, please.  That said, I spent the evening of October 21th, 2007 parked in front of the TV, watching VH1 Classic and stuffing my gullet with Rold Gold-brand mustard-flavored pretzels.  Five hours later I woke up in excruciating pain and ended up in the emergency room with a kidney stone.  Now kidney stones

Panda bear theme!

Image
International Panda Day was back on March 16th, but the way I see it any day can be Panda Day! My earrings are panda ice cream bars. I never have understood how panda bears (and indeed, all bears) can be so powerful and so dangerous to the fools that dare to get close, but at the same time be adorable.  Indeed, my father, who was a bear in his own right with his beard, his height, and his overall size, respected bears.  He saw a grizzly bear from a distance once, turning over refrigerator-sized rocks in search of things to eat, and he said that was as close as he wanted to be to the sucker!  And yet there are people who want to get close to bear cubs because SQUEEEEE, THEY'RE SOOOOO CUTE!!!  Never mind Mama Bear waiting in the bushes, LOL.  I think maybe God made bears cute and dangerous so that they could weed out the stupid humans...maybe.  Either way I love bears! Bear hugs, RagingMoon1987

Jackson Pollock?

Image
I don't celebrate ANY of today's holidays, most of which are for tree-huggers , so I picked something at random.  Paint splatters!  I'm not 100% certain of the Etsy seller, but I think it may be MommysBowCreations . Granted, today IS Oklahoma Day , but I live in Missouri.  I love Oklahoma, but I don't live there.  If any of y'all are from Oklahoma, happy Oklahoma Day!  Anyway, this one was yet another gift from my mom, so I don't know where it came from, but it shows how well Mama knows me.  I love paint, I love colors, I love anything on the unusual side, and this bow fits that bill perfectly. Yeah, I like art.  Splatter painter Jackson Pollock used to be one of my favorite artists, but I do have to wonder:  is Mr. Pollock's work really art???  Under my own definition of art it would not be, because anyone can throw paint at a canvas.  I've always defined "art" as "something that not everyone can do," and...well, like I said, a commo

Thank You for Libraries Day

Image
According to this blog , Thank You for Libraries Day is a thing, though I doubt very many people celebrate it.  So today I'm trotting out the Very Hungry Caterpillar. As usual, I've also got ear baubles.  These were birthday gifts from a very sweet patron. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of those classics, and yet I'd never read it until yesterday!  The book has the bright illustrations one would expect from Eric Carle, and it tells a simple story about a caterpillar who tries to whet his huge appetite on various fruits.  The book teaches basic counting skills, the days of the week, and the basics of a butterfly's life cycle.  My old friend humor makes an appearance when the caterpillar inevitably eats too much, but all ends well.  The story reminds me of my sister, the family's butterfly lover .  We ALL loved butterflies, but she loved 'em a lot. If y'all have a library in the vicinity, give 'em a visit, and if the librarian isn't a jerk tell &

Pineapple upside-down cake!

Image
Yeah, I could've gone with hemp since it's 4/20, but I've never been big on smoking ( pot or otherwise), and I don't think my boss would like the idea of me wearing a bow with mary-jane leaves on it.  According to the Lalaloopsy wiki it's Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Day, so... ...found this one at Wal-Mart!  According to the tag this one is pineapple-scented, but thankfully it doesn't smell too strongly.  I can only smell it if I really press it to my nose, and even then it's a very light scent.  Fine by me, as artificial scents like this sometimes make me sneeze like mad. In addition to the smiling pineapple, the bow has smaller pineapples, as well as kiwi slices, watermelon slices, bananas, and various types of ice cream.  Ewww...I'm not a big fan of bananas.  They're too sweet.  Watermelon, on the other hand, I love.  And fresh pineapple, I also love.  I used to hate pineapple; I assumed that it all tasted like the canned stuff, but one day Sister

The Doctor will see you now

Image
I'd wanted to wait until November to debut this one, but November is a long way off.  Etsy shop is DollfaceDesignss , the same bunch that supplied my pill-popping Pac-Man.  I'm a casual Doctor Who  fan, and I hope to grow into a full-blown fan.  I've followed the show about a year now, ever since I came down with the coronavirus in January of 2022.  Matt Smith/the Eleventh Doctor is my favorite of the Doctors so far, while Donna Noble is my favorite companion.  I'm excited for this November, when Donna will (I hope) get a happier ending than the last one.  Google it if you're curious, because Donna's situation is a bit more complicated than I can explain here. Whovians unite!  If you're one of the crew give me a holler.   Cheers, RagingMoon1987

Just for the heckuvit

Image
I don't get to do this too often since I like to match or contrast my bows with my shirts, but today I happen to have one that goes with everything.   There's a healthy dose of apricot in there like I like, but there's also just about every other color one could want.  Since these are flip sequins, I can turn them all over and have a silver bow if I want... ...but I've got several silver bows, so I usually just leave the colored sides facing up.  Some of the sequins inevitably flip over when I shove the thing into my hair anyway, so it's all good.  By the way, I try to treat this bow (and my other sequined bows) with a gentle hand, as I don't want the thread holding those sparkly little goodies in place to break.  That can be a problem with sequined items, be they hair bows or those pillows that used to be popular or what have you.  If you've got a hair bow enthusiast in your family, you may want to remind them not to be rough with sequins. Sparkles, RagingM

Hair bow haul

Image
Well, today my mailbox was full of hair pretties.  I got five in all, which I think is a record for the most in one day.  To start things off I got this cicada clip for summer, particularly the hottest days of summer.  It's made out of very thin cloth and is quite delicate.  Then there's this pair from eBay.  Y'all may remember from this post that I once thought these unicorn face bows were tacky.  Their horns have flip sequins, but that part is hard to see.  A jack o'lantern bow for Halloween.  It's my third bow with streamers on it, and knowing me it won't be my last.  And finally, a West Virginia University bow for football season.  I like West Virginia.  Go figure.  That isn't even the end of it, as I've got at least two more on the way.  These individual bows will get further discussion when I wear them...whenever that'll be.  Love, RagingMoon1987

A special birthday

Image
Today would've been my dad's birthday.  He'd have been seventy-one.  For reasons I never thought to ask, Daddy loved elephants.  He collected elephants like I collect dolls and hair bows, and indeed the day that he died we'd been out shopping at antique stores (a pastime enjoyed by the whole family), and he'd added some new ones to his collection.  Said collection had a place of honor in our living room, and thus immediately after he died we had to explain it to a large number of church friends.  No, wait... I had to do the explaining, because Mama was fielding phone calls and my sister was hiding.  Explaining it was like a knife to the gut, because I knew Daddy would've been proud to know so many people showed interest in his elephants.  So in honor of Daddy's birthday I'm sporting a bow with an elephant. It's actually a University of Alabama bow, LOL.  I do like the Crimson Tide, but even if I didn't I'd have been all over this bow like wh

Mermaid scales

Image
It's a bit early in the year yet to be talking about mermaids...I guess.  I've just always associated mermaids with summertime, particularly since my sister and I used to pretend we were mermaids when we got in the kiddie pool.  Either way my bow today looks a little mermaid-ish.  It's one of those that looks like a JoJo bow but is not, thus being what I like to calla faux JoJo.  I've got a few like this that I bought from Wal-Mart, and while they're not brand-name they're just as good. The finish on this bow reminds me of fish scales.  The scales themselves are rigid and clear, and the fish's bright skin is visible underneath.  Same sorta thing here; the bow itself is colored, and the sequins are shiny and clear.  The sequins flip, by the way, though the sequins are clear in this case and the "flip" function is kinda pointless.  They do look nice, though. Oh, flip sequins.  I can remember a time, not too long ago, actually, when everything but eve

Lalaloopsy for the win!

Image
I know dolls are not everyone's cuppa, so if they freak you out, please refrain from reading further.  I will not be offended.  On the other hand, if you like dolls or if you like Coraline , then these may be the poppets for you.  That said, today's bow is one of my gaudiest and one of my heaviest.  It also pays tribute to my other main hobby, doll collecting.  The figurine is a mini Lalaloopsy doll. If you're a Lalaloopsy fan then you've probably identified the doll.  Her name is April Sunsplash.  According to the Lalaloopsy wiki, April third was her birthday...and also Find a Rainbow Day .  I love rainbows, but I was off work that day.  I don't tend to wear my hair tied up when I'm lazing about in bed. Like the Saggy Baggy Elephant bow , this one came from AMWBowtique, and as I said in that post, Etsy shut AMW down for no apparent reason.  The proprietor informed me that her Failbook site is still alive and well...and I forgot to include a link last time!!!  H

Green, green, green

Image
Today's bow is a plain green bow, albeit with multiple loops and a gold center.  Green, green, green, just like the officials on NASCAR tracks will chant when the green light comes on after a caution. The earrings are the interesting bit; they're obvious gummy worms.  These came from pokkuruStudio . Green and blue, my two favorite colors.  I like gummy worms too, but I have to be in the mood for 'em.  My favorite flavor is...whatever flavor the clear ones are supposed to be...no wait, that's gummy BEARS.  I love clear gummy bears.  Anyway, my mom hates gummy candy; whenever I offer her a gummy worm I get the same response:  "EWWWWW, no thank you!"  Well, Mama, now you know how I feel about candy corn and circus peanuts (she loves those)!  I will admit that gummy candies can be more fun to look at than to eat, with the way their bright colors sparkle in the light.  Mama would always warn me as a kid, "Don't cram too many of those in your mouth!  And le

Big boxes for big bows?

Image
Seriously, when I saw these boxes on the hood of my car I thought "These two have to be a mile wide." The brown box is a seven-inch cube... ...while the flat box is nine and a half inches across. I do have two bows that are nine inches across (the season isn't right for them yet), but when I opened the flat box I found that the bow is a manageable size.  It's got a sequined spider and web on it, perfect for Halloween. The Etsy shop that provided this bow is called SweetAngelDreamBows , and they do tumblers, plates, and phone covers in addition to blingy cheer bows.  I probably won't wear this one until Halloween, but it's a nice bow with substantial weight.  The sequins are ON THERE, by the way, unlike the sequins on some of my dolls' dresses.  The green material reminds me a little of snakeskin up close, even though it doesn't look much like snakeskin.  Indeed, one of my fellow dolly bloggers compared a fabric like this to squid skin , and cephalopod

Belated a bit, but oh well

Image
April 9th is Unicorn Day, and this year Unicorn Day and Easter happened to coincide.  So to make up for it, behold!  A JoJo bow! I have several JoJo bows with unicorn horns, but this is the only one I have with eyes.  Once upon a time these unicorn face bows were fairly common at Wal-Mart...and at the time that I saw them I thought "Those are the tackiest things I ever saw!  Who on Earth would want to wear those?"  Five-plus years later, here I am wearing one.  How tastes change, huh?  I don't guess you're ever too old for unicorns!  Strangely, I was not a huge unicorn fan when I was the target age for these bows, but I did love My Little Pony, so I guess that counts.  I still love My Little Pony, LOL. Hmmm...My Little Pony...I could call my hair bow Pinkie Pie, except that of the six Equestria Girls I actually like Pinkie Pie the least.  If asked several years back who my favorite MLP was  I'd have said Twilight Sparkle , but nowadays Applejack is my girl , with

Easter, and Easter, and spring

Image
LOL, family joke!  The roots of that joke actually began shortly before Christmas one year, as Mama was preparing to put out the decorations.  She named them off as she handed them to me, and as she handed me a spring-themed trio of items she muttered "...and Easter, and Easter, and spring."  Being a fairly young child, I remember thinking "Spring's too far away to look forward to."  And then in the blink of an eye it would be here, kinda like it was this year.  Anywho, the "Easter and Easter and spring" attitude fits my bow today, as it's more of a spring bow than one specifically for Easter.  Come to think of it, the butterfly bow was more for all of spring too. This is NOT a JoJo bow, by the way; my Wal-Mart has a few knock-offs that are just as good as the brand-name bows, and because I've never been a brand snob I get the knock-offs just like the brand-names.  Because I like rhyming, I call these faux JoJo bows.  The color is what drew me

Butterfly, mariposa, schmetterling...beer?

Image
For me it's not officially spring until I see a butterfly.  I saw my first one about a week before the last wave of tornadoes came through, so it's been spring for me exactly that long.  But I'm only now trotting out the bow. Mama says that this is one of her favorite JoJo bows.  Usually I'm not a big fan of pastels...awww, who am I kidding?  I love pastels, though I don't love how pink gets forced down the throats of little girls.  Pink IS a nice color, but so are lots of other colors.  Now that I think of it...are these pastel butterflies, or are they more neon???  Maybe a little bit of both???  That green is pretty bright, after all, but it's also pretty light.  As I said above my feelings for pastels are a little complicated, I've always loved neon-colored anything.  Indeed, once FailBook had a slot on its profile layout for an individual's favorite colors, and the ones I listed were acid green, neon blue, hot pink, and oddly, black.  Let's face

More Easter stuff

Image
This one is one of those that came in a pair.  I may use the other one on one of my dolls, though these are big enuff that that would look kinda stupid. Time to share some Easter memories, since I love to tell stories.  Interestingly, my family was not churchgoing when I was small.  We believed very strongly in Jesus, but we were incredibly lazy.  But my mama wasn't too lazy to sometimes put on Easter egg hunts for us kids.  I distinctly remember one time, when I was about two or three, when she and Daddy did just that.  It was a gorgeous day, they'd set out plastic eggs in the backyard, and Mama led me by the hand to the various hiding places.  Now I was a child of simple pleasures; often my favorite toys were empty thread spools to roll around, film containers (y'all remember those?) to hide small things in, and brightly colored items like plastic Easter eggs.  Thus most of my eggs were empty, but a few did have loose change inside or Matchbox cars scotch-taped to them.

Not too much longer

Image
Yesterday I wore my jelly bow and it didn't rain a drop.  Today I wore a bow that ISN'T jelly, and it's pouring!  That said, Easter/Resurrection Day isn't too far off!  Here's my bow for today; it's Peeps-themed! Some of these came in pairs and are presumably meant to top pigtails (or dog ears, as some of my older friends call them), but I don't have enuff hair for pigtails anymore, and they always looked kinda dumb on me anyway.  Go figure; my favorite American Girl doll looks great in pigtails.  Notice that she too is clad in bows; I hate bare rubber bands on doll hair...and people hair too, for that matter. Maybe Rita Cheryl's pigtails look better than mine because her hair is thicker than mine.  If you part my hair you can see clean through to my scalp.  My hair has always been thin; when I was a teenager it was so bad that during summertime I'd take a small paintbrush and paint sunblock on my part so that I wouldn't have a line of sunburn on
