When movin' through Kashmir

Another random day, and I haven't worn my Zep bow in awhile, so here it is. It's interesting, I like Led Zeppelin a lot, but when I list my top five bands they never make the cut.  Now top ten?  Yes, probably.  But not the top five.  Usually when asked I give my favorite bands as follows, in no particular order: *Electric Light Orchestra *The Who *The Moody Blues *Yes *Chicago Even that list is kinda fluid, as I'll sometimes trade Yes for Aerosmith.  Kinda depends on my mood.  Zep is definitely in the top ten, though.  I also like some of Robert Plant's solo work and his work with Alison Krauss, but that would land him in my list of favorite solo artists...and no one on that list will ever top Sir Elton John.  What can I say, my late iPod was a who's who of British rock 'n' roll (she said as she popped in a Chicago CD).  I regret nothing. Rock out, RagingMoon1987

Raised by boomers

Today is Baby Boomers Recognition Day.  Being raised by baby boomers means getting to hear the good stuff on the radio growing up.  Yep, both Mama and Daddy were/are baby boomers, and they were a bit older when they had my sister and me so we were raised a little on the strict side.  Not that there was no love, of course.  Far from it!  Mama and Daddy were just extra-protective, and when I grew into a smart-a$$, know-it-all teenager I felt kinda stifled.  It was all for the best, though; I had no idea that the boy I had a wild crush on was into drugs, and Mama did.  And on a positive note I got tips from both parents on how to dress with a retro edge (which I loved to do in high school).  I wore my hair long and my jeans shabby, with necklaces piled on and earrings to my shoulders.  Some of the other kids probably made fun of me behind my back, but as long as I didn't catch wind of it all was good. Oh yes, and the music.  I think I've sa...

Over the hills and far away

Another repeat, another birthday.  Today is for Jimmy Page.  Etsy shop is RoxysBowtiqueShop , and I last wore this bow on August 19th . Page is on the far right in this image. Crazy Jimmy Page, the guitarist for one of England's best-known bands.  I went through my college years eschewing Led Zeppelin in favor of the Who, but now that my blinders are off I have to admit that Zep may have been the stronger band.  Robert Plant had and still has an amazing voice, and while Jimmy Page didn't smash his guitar or invent the windmill, his playing style sounds cleaner.  No hate meant to Pete Townshend, of course; the Who will always be at the top of my favorites list.  But Zep deserves to be there too.  Indeed, Jimmy Page played for the Who when the Who were still very, very, VERY green, though good ol' Pete wasn't thrilled about it.  Jimmy was a session musician at the time, and in addition to the Who he also worked for/with the Kinks...and the Stones......

<sings loudly>  We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs glow !  Tomorrow is Robert Plant's birthday, and thus fresh from the same shop as the Beatle bow comes a Led Zeppelin bow.  Gee whiz, could the Beatles and Zep be more different???   When it comes to British hard rock I've always been more of a Who fan than a Led Zeppelin fan, but I do love me some Zep...and besides that, I've yet to see a bow honoring the Who.  Zep, the Beatles, and the Stones, yes, but so far I've not seen the Who.  Whatever, I like Led Zeppelin too; my favorite Zep songs are " When the Levee Breaks " and " Over the Hills and Far Away ."  Regarding Robert Plant himself, I've always been fond of his work with Alison Krauss, particularly " Please Read the Letter ."  It always surprised me that Big Bad Robert with a voice like steel could mesh with the gossamer-voiced Krauss, but he did and I loved every second o...
