The signpost up ahead

Once upon a time the Sci-Fi Channel ran marathons of The Twilight Zone during Independence Day, and again during the new year.  We don't bother watching much nowadays because big pieces of each episode are cut to cram in more commercials, but for a long time my family did watch and we loved every second of it.  Y'all know where I'm going with this.  The Etsy shop is one of my favorites, DollfaceDesignss.
Whaaaaaaat, did y'all think the Doctor was the only sci-fi feller in my life?  Far from it!  Indeed, Rod Serling came first...and for that matter, Ray Bradbury came second.  I like Ray Bradbury.  Anywho, I like The Twilight Zone because it makes one think and can scare the living snot out of a viewer, and it does so with good storylines and decent acting.  No overuse of gore, sex, or dirty words, though admittedly I'm not allergic to a little gore (or dirty words, as y'all have seen).  "The Obsolete Man" is my favorite episode, because it deals with a Christian librarian living in a dictatorship where illiteracy and state atheism are strictly enforced.  Since he does believe in God and runs a library, Mr. Wordsworth is sentenced to death...and because this is The Twilight Zone, a very satisfying twist in the plot occurs.  I'm a Christian and a librarian myself, and sometimes I wonder if I won't be forced to do the same thing that Mr. Wordsworth had to do.  The world gets crazier (and dumber) all the time, so I wonder a lot.  I don't worry too much, but I do wonder.

Then there's "The Masks," which is a family favorite.  "The Masks" deals with a crochety, terminally ill old man who's sick to death of his family.  In turn, his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and grandson are all vice-riddled and money-hungry.  They make it clear that they're only there for the old man's wealth and possessions.  The old man obliges...on the condition that they each wear a special mask that allegedly shows the opposite of what they are.  Again, the plot twist is very satisfying.  I freaking love that episode...I may have to call my favorite episode a tie between "The Obsolete Man" and "The Masks."

As for my bow, I recognize characters from "To Serve Man," seen here...
...and from "Eye of the Beholder," yet another of my favorite episodes.
Of course there's also Rod Serling himself.  Can't have The Twilight Zone without him!
I freaking love The Twilight Zone.

Happy New Year,
