I hate candy corn
And yet here I have it on my bow. This one is a new-to-me bow, one that I bought pre-used off of eBay. I don't usually like pre-used bows because you never know what kind of cooties they might be carrying, but in this case I made an exception.
This one is one of my few bows that lights up. I used to have more that lit up like this, but the batteries went blooey and they're sadly the irreplaceable kind. The candy corn lights up in three colors, but it's such a quick shift that I could only photograph the one color.
No, I never have liked candy corn. I like the aesthetic of it, and obviously I like jewelry and trinkets that have it on them, but the candy itself is too sweet for me. Mama loves the stuff. The more power to her; at least she doesn't have to share, LOL! Every year around this time I re-watch Gordon Ramsay's schtick on Jimmy Kimmel Live about five treats NOT to give out on Halloween and I giggle, partly because I think Gordon Ramsay is hilarious and partly because I agree with him on some of those treats. I never minded receiving apples and pennies during the handful of times I trick-or-treated, but circus peanuts and candy corn I always handed over to Mama. As for Smarties, it depended on my mood. When I was a little kid I loved 'em, but now I can take 'em or leave 'em. I also hated receiving Dots and those root beer barrels, and more than anything I hated getting toothbrushes, because I ALREADY HAD A TOOTHBRUSH AT HOME!!! But the toothbrush folks also gave candy, so I kept my mouth shut and said "Thank you" anyway. Now, my favorite things to get? Mini candy bars, of course, and gum, and those little packages of Skittles, and especially Laffy Taffy. My sister loved Warheads and anything ridiculously sour, and she was also fond of Dots, so if I got a box of Dots I'd give those to her in exchange for something she didn't like.
Now, that being said, I can only remember successfully trick-or-treating once. Sister and I went as cats, and Daddy chaperoned us as an elephant. Since Mama was a teacher she knew a lot of people, and we were thus able to visit a large number of houses. We did pretty well for ourselves, I must say; I still had some candy left over after Thanksgiving. LOL, that was the year one of our elderly neighbors looked at Daddy trying to figure out what he was, and then she smiled and said simply, "Oh, you're an elephant!" Good times, man, good times.
But I still hate candy corn. If I get any this year, y'all can have it.
