Spring and all
Yep, I'm finally celebrating the return of spring! It's...well, today is actually quite beautiful. Late March can be a mixed bag in the Bootheel, but today the weather is lovely. There is a slight chance of rain, but I love rain. All that said, it's time to trot out the flowers and the rainbows again, and today's bow is perfect for that. I've been holding onto this beauty since mid-November. Mama got it for me when things were kinda rough. Etsy shop is perfectprincess.
It's hard to pick between fall and spring as a favorite season, but for me I think spring will always eke fall out by just a hair. It's a beautiful time, when the flowers and the trees are budding, when the winter wheat begins to look green and healthy, when the birds trill in the trees. I love spring.
On the other hand, I do live on the edge of two large tornado hotbeds, so spring can be kinda dicey. April and May are usually the worst months, but March can be bad too. Tornadoes and large hail are the main culprits, but flooding can be a concern around here as well, particularly since the whole Bootheel used to be a huge swamp. We got so much rain in 2011 that some of the winter wheat drowned, and a bunch of the farmers over in Butler County planted rice instead. Rice loves water. LOL, I was laid up here in Malden with a broken ankle during the spring of 2011, but with the weather being terrible that turned out to be a good thing! We all sheltered at my grandmother's house while the storms raged, and...well, most was fine. Mama had just bought a new house, and on the night of April 27th it lost part of its roof and the front storm door. Sister's then-boyfriend (NOT my BiL) had a new car that he was keeping at said new house for protection from hail, and the broken storm door hit it, leaving a seven-inch dent in the right rear door. Fortunately my mama has an awesome insurance agent, and her insurance covered everything, including the dent in Boyfriend's car. Boyfriend took it all in stride; he was pretty chill like that...at least in the beginning.
All that said, violent weather in Missouri is frequently accompanied by one of my favorite things, the rainbow. It's been a long time since I saw a decent rainbow, but patience and diligence are key when it comes to sky photography. Always look, always remain optimistic, never forget what you're looking for, appreciate the beauty of it all.
