Barbie girl
As with Dalek Day, Barbie Doll Day has left me scratching my head a little. Barbie's "birthday" is in March, and yet here it is September. I don't guess it matters much though, since I've got bows for each day. Here's the one for today. Etsy shop is MadeWithLoveByAnaM. I had a giggle when I learned that the shop is based in Malden, Massachusetts, because sometimes I get phone calls from people there. One of them even asked me "Did they hire someone new at the library? You sound southern!" Then usually it clicks for me and I'll ask "Are you in Malden, Massachusetts? You've got the right town, but the wrong state!" Then we'll have a hearty chuckle and we'll hang up. I like folks from Massachusetts, LOL! Anyway, here's the bow.
Oh mercy, I'd better end it here before I throw in MORE of my dolls. They've already got a blog of their own.

I think it's a shame that none of the Barbie bows I found on Etsy show a vintage Barbie. True, the bows I have are geared towards modern children and not collectors, but still it would be nice to have a bow emblazoned with an old-timey bubble cut doll, or one of the early ponytail dolls, like my mother's old doll.
I have many, many Barbie dolls, but this one is the only one I've deemed worthy of the name "Barbie." In that goofy new movie all of the Barbie dolls are...well, "Barbie," and all of the Ken dolls are called "Ken," period. But I just have the one Barbie, and all of my other dolls have pet names, stuff like "Leide," "Theta," "Pilar," "Sonja," and "Dandelion." If y'all see Dandelion then you'll know why I named her that, LOL. I've also got Barbie dolls named "Sparky" and "Tumbleweed" somewhere in my mix, though I don't have pictures of them. Sparky has purple tinsel in her hair, making her sparkle, and Tumbleweed looked like she'd blown in on a stiff wind when I found her, hence that unusual name. Oh yes, there's also "Duckie", who looks like a real model named Duckie Thot. Miss Duckie's last name really is "Thot," by the way. It's Sudanese and thus means something different from what it means in English. But yeah, even though they all came off the assembly line as Barbie or a friend of Barbie, I've assigned new names to most of them and personalities to a few of my favorites.
