'Tis the season

Some folks start wearing their Christmas garb before Thanksgiving is even over, but for me the first of December (or close to it) is about right.  This bow fits that bill pretty well.
For some reason Mama has developed this fixation with the chubby, big-bearded gnomes that have become popular over the past couple'a years, and since she doesn't wear hair bows herself she projected that bit of herself onto me with this bow.  Not that I mind, because it's a nice, big, comfortable bow with tails that flutter.  I hate it that I can only wear it around Christmas!  That's the worst thing about seasonal clothes and accessories; they're usually cute and/or attractive, but they're intended for wear maybe one month out of the year.  Oh well, I'll get as much mileage out of these Christmas bows as I can.

Lighthearted as this whimsy bow is, the message brings back some melancholy memories.
The first time I heard "I'll Be Home For Christmas" was the first Christmas my family spent without Daddy.  I remember hearing the song on TV, then saying "I'll be right back," and then scarpering to my room to cry.  Someone I loved would NEVER be home for Christmas, and I knew it!  It isn't often that music makes me do that, but that time it did.  That Christmas was a tough one, period.  I do like the song, though!

Speaking of the gnomes themselves, they seem to be taking over the library.  There were these two, who were out for Day of the Dead...
...and this happy couple was out for much of the summer!
Oh, there are others as well!  Some of them are out for Christmas, but I'll show them as the season progresses.
