Plaid Season

Yeah, I established yesterday that the equinox isn't until the 23nd, and the hot weather probably won't even end then, but for me September 1st is the time to start trotting out the orange.  The pumpkins, the leaves, the chrysanthemums...wait a minute, mums aren't orange!  That would be marigolds.  Anyway, Mama got me this bow back in March, but it's more of a fall bow than spring or summer, so I'm only now getting a chance to wear it.
I absolutely LOVE this bow!  The material is soft and has a lot of drape, but I do have to take care that it doesn't wrinkle.  That makes me wonder if this bow was made from a plaid flannel shirt that had passed its useful lifespan.  It certainly feels like that kind of fabric.  But yeah, I love plaid.  During high school I used to joke to my parents that for me plaid was the winter equivalent of tie-dye.  Back then I had a tie-dyed shirt for every day of the week, but I considered those to be spring/summer wear.  On the first cool day I'd trot out my favorite red plaid blouse, and after that it was Plaid Season.  I freaking loved that shirt.  The dominant colors were red and black, but it was also shot through with thin lines of gray and dark blue.  I could wear that shirt by itself or over another shirt, and I could wear whatever accessory I wanted (I usually layered on the necklaces).  But never until now have I owned a plaid hair bow.

Now, time for my usual spate of bloviating, like I haven't bloviated enuff.  My father was of German decent, but both he and Mama claimed a fair amount of Scots blood as well, so I grew up with a lot of plaid in my house.  Black Watch was the most common tartan used around my home, but one variant of the Stewart tartan also made an appearance when Daddy got into making pillows.  He made a plaid pillow for both my sister and me, and when I asked what tartan mine was he replied "Some variant of Stewart.  I don't remember which one, exactly."  Sister's was dominantly blue, but I've yet to see a tartan that strikes a chord for hers.  For the most part we didn't care what the pattern was.  What mattered to us was the thought, and the protection aspect.  We carried the pillows to protect our heads when tornadoes were about, as neither of us thought to wear our bicycle helmets.

I need to dig around on Etsy and see if I can find any other plaid bows...besides buffalo plaid, that is.  I like buffalo plaid, also known as MacGregor Red and Black or simply Rob Roy, but it's not the only plaid out there.  I'd like to find one in Missouri's state tartan, if that's at all possible.  Yep, my beloved Missouri has a tartan, called the "Show-Me" tartan!  We didn't get it until 2019, but we've at least got one!  As of writing, Missouri is the most recent state to get their own tartan, and last spring I thought I'd found a bow with the right plaid.  Key word:  THOUGHT.  Y'all will see that one in a few days' time.
