The downswing
With Fourth of July over, the next closest big event is...dare I say it? Back to school time. I think this one is from AdoraBowsStore, but I'm not for sure; as is often the case, my mom gave me this one.
I included "rhinestones" in the tags, but they're carefully concealed. Both of them are located in the little bows on the sides, like so.
Yep, it's getting to be that time. Just a long, dull stretch of hot weather with no holidays even remotely in sight. My family always found ways to have fun, but it wasn't always easy because three of the four of us had school hanging over our heads. Sometimes we had fun at school, believe it or not. While Mama got her room ready my sister and I would roam the halls, exploring the unlocked classrooms, playing hide and seek in the cafeteria, chatting with any other teachers we ran into (Mama was friends with most of 'em). Sister and I made a verbal agreement with each other: no stealing, no making messes, no excessive noise, no pestering the other teachers if they were busy, and leave the janitors alone unless they spoke first. The janitors ALWAYS had work to do, and we tried not to bother them unless it was important. We stuck to those rules, and as a result the other teachers began trusting us with small tasks and errands. It doesn't sound like much fun, but for my sister and me it was. It was always interesting to roam the school when it was dark, hot, and cluttered, because there was always something to see. There might be a huge spider in the girls' room, or a cute teddy bear in Ms. So-and-So's room, or a HUGE pile of stuff outside the teachers' lounge. That was sometimes where we broke our "no stealing" rule, as piles of stuff outside the lounge were usually free for the taking. If we thought Mama could use it in her room, we took it. But I kid y'all not, we got to know the K-3 building like the backs of our hands. We always enjoyed ourselves. But admittedly, it was always a relief to get back to Mama's room where the A/C was going.
And that, kids, is what the back-to-school period was like for a pair of sisters who had a teacher as a parent! Doesn't sound like much, but for us even the simple things were nice things.
