Why I wear hair bows
If you're coming over from my doll blog, welcome to my new blog. If you don't know me at all...well, welcome anyway. I'm RagingMoon1987, and recently I shared a post on my doll blog that dealt with hair bows. The one that I was showing had a doll attached to it, and...yeah. That post can be read HERE. Anyway, the post got a lot of hits and quite a few comments, so I thought what the heck, why not start a blog for my bows? I do have a blogging buddy who collects keychains, after all (Treesa's keychain blog can be found HERE; she's got some really cute ones).
So some of y'all may be thinking, how old is this chick??? Aren't hair bows for nine-year-old girls? Why is this gal, who is old enuff to be blogging, have a hair bow? In answer to the first question, I'm thirty-five years old and have been wearing bows for four years. Addressing the second, not necessarily. Regarding the third, I'm rather nondescript-looking. I have mouse-brown hair, pale blue eyes, and a heavy build. I look like any other woman you'd meet on the street. When I got my job at the library I originally just tied my hair up in a bandana and went around like Rosie the Riveter, but when I was promoted to head librarian at my home branch, I decided that I needed to look more polished. I cleaned up my clothes, relegated the bandana to bad hair days, and started wearing makeup again (I wore it all the time during college but had gotten out of the habit). But what else? What else could I do to set myself apart, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic ramping up? With everyone wearing a mask it was hard to tell one person from the other, and I have a hard enuff time telling people apart as it is!
So there I was one afternoon in 2019, wheezing behind my mask and browsing Dexter, Missouri's Wal-Mart for yarn, dog food, and probably doll clothes, when I noticed the craft section carried hair bows. They were plain cheer bows in various solid colors, and the intention was probably to customize them with beads or sequins or fabric paint. I bought one in each color (there was no green!!!), started wearing them, and that was the end of it. I made a habit of wearing those bows, and then my birthday rolled around.
The library had had a Lego-themed back-to-school contest, hence the Lego bow. I happen to be a fan of The Nutcracker, thus the Nutcracker bow. And lastly, I'm an imperfect but outspoken Christian, hence the green bow with John 3:16 on it. Oh yes, and I love green. I'd managed to find a green bow before Mama got me the Christian bow, but one can't have too many things in one's favorite color. The Nutcracker and Lego bows also have my initials.
From there it's been a steady stream of bows, some big and some small, some plain and some fancy, some following a theme and some not. Today my bow is medium-sized with long tails, and it has everything I love...well, almost. It doesn't have cats or shrimp scampi, LOL.

My two favorite colors (green and blue, in my favorite shades, no less), my favorite print (polka dots), and my name (Sarah). The Etsy shop is osewpretty, and this particular bow is customizable. The shop also sells paired bows for young equestriennes, if you know anyone who does dressage.
So that's my intro. This blog won't discuss anything super-deep or exciting or important. Just a frowsy thirtysomething coloring her world.
Much love,
