These things are good things
When I was a little girl Dr. Seuss was king. I was fond of Horton Hatches the Egg, while my sister was obsessed with The Foot Book. My bow today unfortunately doesn't have either of those themes, but it does have Thing One and Thing Two on it. That too ties in with my childhood, since Mama used to call my sister and me Thing One and Thing Two.
I have another Dr. Seuss bow somewhere, but it's pretty little so I rarely wear it. This one is another gift from my mama, so I don't know where it came from, but it matches my new shirt so I won't complain. Since Thing One and Thing Two both wear red jumpsuits, I could also wear this with red. Versatility is a good thing, with the economy being what it is. Mama and I have elected to be veeeeeeeery careful with our money, so new hair bows are probably going to become a rarer thing. No biggie, because I've got two big boxes full already.
Fun thing about Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel: the name "Seuss" is actually pronounced like "voice." I didn't know that until yesterday. I also learned that Dr. Seuss was kind of a douche to his first wife. Sure, plenty of people have affairs, but does that make it right? Absolutely not, and in Dr. Seuss's case his affair drove his wife to suicide. Helen Palmer was never healthy, and yet good ol' Ted goes running to another bird after a FORTY YEAR MARRIAGE!!! Not nice, Doc. Not nice at all. But...I still love the books. Every so often I like to leaf through The Lorax or Hop on Pop or One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish just for old time's sake. Given my fondness for Horton the Elephant, y'all can probably imagine my horror upon learning that my library does not have a copy of Horton Hatches the Egg. What travesty is that??? That will have to be rectified!
Have a nice day, y'all! Be gentle when you hop on Pop!

LOL Hop on Pop is one of my favorites. I actually have two books signed by him that were about children with disabilities. One was called My Treasure is My Friend about a deaf boy and the other had a blind toddler and a talking tree. I can't remember the name of that one. So he actually wrote more than just his rhyming books. Thing One and Thing Two are one of my other favorites.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really neat! Did you hear that "Hop on Pop" has become controversial recently because it supposedly "promotes elder abuse"? Unbelievable.
