BEE-ware!

I love bees, and I have three bows commemorating said love.  This is one of them.
This one is my newest one; the other two I've worn already.  Don't worry, y'all will get to see them when the time comes.  But this one has a small chain of bees on it that dangles, and I'm not sure how well they'll look with my ponytail.
They sort of match my earrings.  My earrings have "diamonds" on them, while the bees on my bow don't.  They go just fine together though.
The bow came from BowObsessions, and I don't know where Mama got the earrings.

I've always found it both interesting and humorous that while both bumblebees and honeybees have stripes, bees in art, jewelry, and animation usually resemble bumblebees.  I try to give both species a respectful distance since they're related to wasps and thus sting, and because honeybees don't recover after stinging (bumblebees do).  It's probably old news by now that our honeybees have become endangered, and indeed if I see a bee nowadays I usually try to do a happy dance.  I say try because I've got a bum leg and terrible coordination.  But no, when I was a little kid my backyard had a huge lilac bush, and in the spring and summer the bush would be crawling with honeybees (plus plenty of bumblebees and a few God-forsaken red wasps).  I would get as close as I dared to the bush and watch the bees go about their rat-killing, and once in a great while I'd VERY CAREFULLY stick out a finger for a honeybee to land on.  If I held still, I knew I'd be fine, and apparently the bee knew she'd be fine too.  She'd land on my fingertip, comb pollen out of her fuzz, stretch her wings, and then off she'd go.  Off I'd go as well, usually to gawk at a freight train or to play on my swing set.  Handling one bee was usually enuff for me for one day.  I only got stung by a bee once, when I was younger and didn't know what kind of insect I was handling.  The bee socked me on the knuckle of my left birdie finger, and after that I knew not to monkey with them.  The injury hurt like mad for awhile, but I don't recall any other ill effects.  But after that I was more careful around bees.  I still handled them, as I noted above, but I let them come and go on their own terms.

Hugs and honeybees,

  1. That one is cute too. I like your newest bee one better, but I do like the chain on this one. A way to show jewelry without having to wear it.

    1. I've got one more with honeycomb on it, believe it or not. I hit the bee theme hard this spring.
