If you're going to San Francisco...
...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair! I guess that the proper time to wear a sunflower was last week when it was so cotton-pickin' hot, but...well, summer's not over yet. Etsy shop is...y'all ready for this??? The shop's name is GnosisCraftsandGifts.
I occasionally wore flowers in my hair when I was in high school, but it never became a habit and I dropped the act after getting my hair cut for college. I still have my high school flowers....somewhere, though. There was a pink rose, a black rose, and a trippy blue thing made out of denim. They were all Hot Topic specials, believe it or not. Hot Topic sells more girly crap now, but once upon a time they were where you went to shop if you were a beginner goth or punk. My sister and I were the latter.
As for sunflowers, I used to marvel at their size and their beauty, as well as their usefulness. When I was small my paternal grandfather would always grow several, and since I WAS small the sunflowers dwarfed me. When they went to seed Grandpa would cut their heads off. He then kept one for himself, put one out for the birds, gave one to my branch of the family (Mama likes sunflower seeds), and he'd sell the rest. I was always shocked at how big the heads got; for those unfamiliar with sunflowers, the seed head is WAAAAAY bigger than the blossom it comes from. And yet it was still recognizable as a sunflower.
In addition to the domestic sunflowers it's not uncommon to see wild sunflowers growing in our neck of the woods. The first time Daddy pointed one out to me I was shocked at its size, as wild sunflowers are not big. They were no less beautiful, though. Sunflowers are commonplace here in Missouri, but it's Kansas that got the nickname "the Sunflower State," because the flowers there are thicker than a whale blubber sandwich. They're a beautiful sight, regardless of where they grow.
Love and sunflowers,
