Another one for the bees

Image
It's a random day!  I love these!  For today's randomness I chose a bee bow, one that I haven't worn in forever .  Etsy shop is CutiePatootieBow17, who is currently not selling anything. Bees!  I think our local efforts to help bees may be paying off, as I've seen a lot of 'em around Grandma's place.  We had a bumper crop of clover and dandelions this year, and Grandma's neighbors have a magnolia tree, so there's ample food for any bees that come along.  Sigh...when Grandma's crabapple tree was alive the bees came in the thousands, but that tree is gone.  The 2009 ice storm split it in two.  I spent a lot of time playing in that tree as a child, so when I heard it had been destroyed I was devastated.  There's a maple tree growing there now though, and it's a good tree.  Pretty and healthy.  It just doesn't attract bees. Return of the sunflower

It's Water a Flower Day, though I'd advise against watering my big sunflower.  I wore this bad boy on Eclipse Day !  Etsy shop is GnosisCraftsandGifts . No solar eclipse for the Moon Girl today (or possibly ever again), but I'll remember the one on April 8th for a loooong time.  Hopefully forever. Sadly there will be no sunflowers for me today either, as I haven't got a place to grow them.  Not yet, anyway.  No one else is growing sunflowers either...hold that thought.  God's wild sunflowers are growing in a field next to one of the graveyards and they look amazing.  I love sunflowers. For my feathered (and winged) friends

It's Pink Flamingo Day, and I don't have a flamingo bow so I chose an old favorite. Flamingos are special to me because they remind me of a friend who died not too long ago.  She loved flamingoes and kept those goofy plastic ones in her yard.  Her husband STILL leaves 'em out, in fact!  Miss D had cervical cancer, and it unfortunately was too far gone for them to do much when she was diagnosed.  A metastasis wrapped around her aorta, and that thankfully took her quickly.  I didn't know her as well as Mama did, but we talked on Failbook about music (we both liked the Guess Who) and about pets.  She was a nice lady.  Thus is the drawback of befriending people way older than you; they eventually die off.  That's happened a lot lately.  Granted, most of the friends I've lost this year were just folks I knew from the library, so we weren't bosom buddies or anything.  But it still stings. Right, flamingoes are among my favorite birds, partiall...

Geeks unite!

Today is the anniversary of yet another violent tornado outbreak, and also World Geek Day.  I assume that Whovians fall on the geek spectrum, so out comes one of my big bows.  Etsy shop is AandMsBOWtique ; I need to tell the shop owner that this bow has received a lot of compliments. It also helps that Uncle From St. Louis is home for the weekend, and he's the only other Whovian in the family.  I'm dying to ask him what he thinks of Number Fourteen.  For me no one will top Number Eleven, but that's just my opinion. For the split minds

Today's bow is big and silver for World Schizophrenia Awareness Day.  Etsy shop is PurelyGirlyBows . I don't have schizophrenia and I don't know anyone with schizophrenia, but I've always been fascinated by and terrified of the disorder.  Some folks with this scourge of an illness develop atrophy of the frontal lobe, and y'all can probably guess what that does to them.  You can't recover from that.  So if you've got schizophrenia or love someone with schizophrenia, this bow's for you.  Please know that you are loved. Love, RagingMoon1987

Another day for a critter

Today is International Turtle Day.  The shop this time is MichelesBowtique . Daddy loved elephants and foxes, I love frogs, sloths, and red pandas, and my brother-in-law's animal of choice is the turtle.  I think he's thinking of the box turtles that are thick as thieves around here, but a sea turtle is what I found.  Besides, sea turtles are wicked awesome too.  However, my heart will always lie with snapping turtles.  Being from the Bootheel, I call these "snappin'" turtles or just "snappers."  Alligator snappers are endangered, but I've seen a few and I've gotten pictures.  You don't want to monkey with snappers, but they're truly beautiful in their own way.  I captured this feller in 2017 just outside Malden city limits. I think this one was your regular snapper and not an alligator snapper, but I've seen both living in our ditches.  This chap was about eighteen inches from head to tail, and he scuttled off into the grass after I ...

On goths and remembrance

It's World Goth Day, among other things.  I used to wear gothic touches with my clothes. I was a hippie at heart during high school, pairing my long hair with tie-dyed shirts and Mama's love beads.  But if I was in a weird mood I'd throw in a black necklace with crosses or a few studded bracelets.  I never was fully goth, but I admired the aesthetic and had a lot of respect for any goths I met.  I still do.  Not everyone is that way, as the tragic murder of Sophie Lancaster shows.   My favorite subgenre of gothic style is pastel goth. Yep, pink can be gothic!  When I learned that I was...well, tickled pink!  I've always loved colors too much to be fully gothic myself, so when I learned that there WAS a way to work colors in I was all for it.  Now...that being said, I'm NOT a pastel goth myself.  I'm an ordinary country woman who wears what's comfortable, usually in bright colors and with two or three necklaces, plus some goofy earri...
