Lies, lies, lies, yeah!

Image
I learned that the Republican National Convention closes today, so I thought "May as well wear my most controversial bow." I usually vote red, and I intend to again this time around, but let's be real:  neither party is worth a crap, and this time around the candidates all suck.  The Donald can't keep his big mouth shut, Sleepy Joe is losing his mind, and none of the alternatives are worth the sperm and eggs it took to conceive 'em.  Sad thing is, I think Joe Biden would've done a fine job as president if he had his wits about him.  I like him.  I don't like some of his policies, but I like him.  But he's not cut out for the job anymore.  All the others do is lie to us and throw mud at each other.  We don't even hear promises to make the country better, empty as those promises may be.  It's just "Trump did this" or "Biden didn't do that," and a bunch of lies, damned lies, and statistics that may or may not be lies. Let...

Sing a happy song...or not

Global Smurfs Day.  That can only mean a blue bow. I'm not a big fan of the Smurfs.  They're too damn cutesy for my taste, and they're kinda dim-witted too.  That said, I did watch a few episodes in my day and I got acquainted with...well, with some of 'em.  Given my fondness for Oscar the Grouch, it should be no surprise that Grouchy Smurf was a favorite of mine.  He was...well, a grouch!  He was eternally in a bad mood, and he said "I hate" a lot.  I think he'd have made good friends with Oscar the Grouch and with Tardar Sauce. It turns out that Grouchy was bitten by a fly long ago and that altered his personality significantly (if one goes by the comics, at least).  He does have a soft spot, admitting his fondness for Smurfette and for Baby Smurf.  Both characters reciprocate Grouchy's positive feelings, and that led to a comical misunderstanding on my part.  My five-year-old self was watching an episode of the 1981 animated series, a...

A type of pride I can support

Image
It's Autistic Pride Day, and while I'm not diagnosed as being on the spectrum, I have friends who are.  Etsy shop is fittingly named bowsforthebelle . Not much to say today that I haven't said in the past!  I am considering having myself tested for Asperger's because several friends tell me that I've got symptoms, but other than that, nothing. Love, RagingMoon1987

A bit early for football

Image
Today is Joe Montana's birthday.  He's sixty-eight like Uncle Man-Child and Uncle From St. Louis.  My dad liked Joe Montana a lot when Joe was in his youth, so why not wear my Chiefs bow today? Football season is MONTHS away, but since when have I let that stop me? Interestingly, Joe Montana only spent one year with the Chiefs, and he was on the injured list much of the time.  For most of his NFL tenure Montana played for the 49ers, a team that I can take or leave.  I don't pay much attention to San Francisco unless they have an earthquake or a riot.  Anyway, Joe Montana's birthday is today, so happy birthday, Mr. Montana! Geeks unite!

Image
Today is the anniversary of yet another violent tornado outbreak, and also World Geek Day.  I assume that Whovians fall on the geek spectrum, so out comes one of my big bows.  Etsy shop is AandMsBOWtique ; I need to tell the shop owner that this bow has received a lot of compliments. It also helps that Uncle From St. Louis is home for the weekend, and he's the only other Whovian in the family.  I'm dying to ask him what he thinks of Number Fourteen.  For me no one will top Number Eleven, but that's just my opinion. Geeks rule, RagingMoon1987

On goths and remembrance

Image
It's World Goth Day, among other things.  I used to wear gothic touches with my clothes. I was a hippie at heart during high school, pairing my long hair with tie-dyed shirts and Mama's love beads.  But if I was in a weird mood I'd throw in a black necklace with crosses or a few studded bracelets.  I never was fully goth, but I admired the aesthetic and had a lot of respect for any goths I met.  I still do.  Not everyone is that way, as the tragic murder of Sophie Lancaster shows.   My favorite subgenre of gothic style is pastel goth. Yep, pink can be gothic!  When I learned that I was...well, tickled pink!  I've always loved colors too much to be fully gothic myself, so when I learned that there WAS a way to work colors in I was all for it.  Now...that being said, I'm NOT a pastel goth myself.  I'm an ordinary country woman who wears what's comfortable, usually in bright colors and with two or three necklaces, plus some goofy earri...

Back the blue...again!

Image
Etsy shop is the defunct SpunkyDoo. I prefer this bow to the one I wore on September 16th , because it's soft and fits over my ponytail better. After consulting my favorite holiday website I found nothing to mention police or backing the blue, but it IS Emergency Medical Services Day and the police help them out a lot, so I guess that works.  We ought to be backing the blue every day anyway. A holiday with my name all over it!

Image
Apparently the third Friday in April is Blue and Green Day.  My two favorite colors!  Etsy shop is TopNotchCheerBows . With it being so close to Earth Day I suspect that the blue and green is supposed to signify the environment.  I can get behind that.  I don't think going green is the way, the truth, and the life like a lot of leftists do, but I will admit that taking care of the planet is important.  We've got a lot of cool stuff living on Earth with us, and if we humans aren't careful a lot of it could go extinct.  My favorite at-risk creatures are South China tigers, golden lion tamarins, and poison dart frogs.  South China tigers are extinct in the wild, but the Chinese aren't giving up on saving them.  South China tigers are wicked beautiful , by the way. On the other hand, my college biology professor (the one who declared bats glorious) opined that we're in the middle of a mass extinction as it is, nothing could've stopped it, and nothing ...

The return of the puzzle piece bow

Image
Adult Autism Awareness Day is today, and their symbol is the puzzle piece, just like it is for autistic children. I kinda think that we're ALL on the spectrum to some extent.  Indeed, I think a touch of autism may run in my mother's side of the family.  My great aunt was a carefully organized hoarder, left the heat on in summertime, and had NO FILTER!  If you'd put on weight, she'd let you know.  If you were slouching, she'd poke you in the back and make you stand up straight.  She didn't do it to be ugly, not really.  She was just...VERY concerned about us looking like we were worth something.  I too am eccentric, but...I think I'm just eccentric. Speaking of eccentrics, one of my favorite people, Suzanne "Underdog" Muldowney," legit IS on the autism spectrum.  This is her now; in her youth she was quite pretty. Speed of lightning!  Roar of thunder!  Fighting all who rob or plunder!  Ahem...Miss Suzanne has Asperger's syndrome, whi...

Who needs it???

Last Saturday was International Asexuality Day, so I'm trotting out my pride bow . Medium-sized and to the point, LOL!  Normally I don't go so hot and heavy with the pride crap, but I got two new buttons in the mail yesterday.  Y'all may or may not remember that I like frogs...and stars. I try to go subtle.  Mama says that sexual orientation is no one's business, and she's pretty much right, but...well, I want folks to know where I stand without having to yell it at 'em.  That said...I wish asexuals had gotten the green stripe, LOL.  Alas, green is for aromantics, and that's definitely not me.  I say I hate romance, but in reality I just hate sappy romance novels.  Romance to me is my mom and dad enjoying a single kiss on a Sunday morning, both dressed in their best.  Daddy telling Mama "You look nice," before kissing her, and Mama replying "Well you taste nice" AFTER the kiss!  True story, by the way.  We were getting ready for church a...

Arachnophobia

Image
Today is, among other holidays, Save a Spider Day.  I wore this one before last October, right after my birthday . One of my Failbook friends is a spider enthusiast, and she declared this bow her favorite in dramatic and hilarious fashion.  As I implied in October I have a love-hate relationship with spiders, and a full-tilt HATE-hate relationship with brown recluses.  But in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, if I run into any today I'll give 'em a free pass.  I know for a fact that there's a huge brownie living in Uncle Man-Child's laundry room, and whenever I see him he's booking it like he knows what I'll do if I catch him.  Since Uncle Man-Child doesn't have any pets I usually leave any spiders I run across alone. Oh yeah, it's World Kidney Day as well.  I suffer from mild kidney problems (stones), so a green ribbon would work too.  Hey, my spider bow is half-green!  I killed two birds with one (kidney) stone! Spidery love, RagingMoon198...

Plan green, but mighty nice

Image
Back when I was just starting to collect/wear hair bows I couldn't find any green ones...at least, not at Wal-Mart.  I ended up grubbing this up at Hobby Lobby.  Just a plain kelly green cheer bow, but it was exactly what I was looking for back then.  I wanted a green bow, period.  Now I've got several, LOL.  Solid bows are kinda a necessity now that I've got a blouse with multiple colors of stripes (including this shade of green).  Kinda gives me an excuse to wear my solid bows now! Not that I ever need an excuse to wear green! Love, RagingMoon1987

Sherbet

Image
With its soft colors and light fabric, I've been calling this one the "sherbet bow." Another Wal-Mart special!  My mom really likes this one, LOL.  I have to admit that I do too; as the temperature warms the butterflies and the flower petals will soon be floating around, and this bow is kinda floaty too.  I only took a stab at the fabric type, by the way.  I said "chiffon" in the tags, but is chiffon ever cheap enuff to be utilized in a Wal-Mart hair bow? As for sherbet...it's weird.  I used to freaking LOVE sherbet, but there's a tub of it in Uncle Man-Child's freezer and I've barely touched it.  It's the rainbow kind, usually my favorite, and the whole thing makes me feel kinda icky in my gut.  What can I say, I've always been on the weird spectrum, right down to my interior. Sweet love, RagingMoon1987

Love is blue

Image
Today's bow is a repeat , but it's a pretty bow so oh well.  On this day in 1968 one of my mother's favorite songs, Paul Mauriat's " Love is Blue ," hit #1 on charts.   Blue is my second-favorite color after green, so I have a lot of blue bows.  I tend to feel lonely around Valentine's Day, and my allergies are making me feel lousy today, so blue is a good color for me at this point.  But then again, I like blue even when I'm NOT feeling lonesome. I forget what year it was, but around 2004 or 2005 blue was the favorite color of Americans; apparently someone else who doesn't have a life did a survey.  Green and purple were second and third favorites respectively.  I was pleased about that; I loved and still love green, and my sister loved and still loves purple.  Funnily, neither of us really know why we picked our respective colors.  I just remember there being something very special about the green crayon.  But by jove, if I wanted blue...

Happy birthday, Elmo!

Image
Yep, his birthday is today, though denizens of Sesame Street never seem to age.  This bow was a freebie from AbbeysAlley , one that came with my other Sesame Street bow . Elmo is not my favorite muppet, but I don't hate him either.  Indeed, I get why he's so popular nowadays, years after he moved to Sesame Street.  But I could ask ten different people who their favorite Sesame Street muppet is and get ten different answers, so there you go.  As I've said before, Oscar the Grouch is my fellow.  He's kinda an a-hole, but he tells it like it is when it needs to be done.  Oscar's birthday is June 1st.  But today, it's all about the little red guy. Happy birthday, Elmo! Love, RagingMoon1987

Super Bowl bound...again!

Image
The Chiefs NEVER did this well when my dad was alive! Yep, Kansas City is going to the Super Bowl for the second year running.  While everyone else is having a stroke over that bitch Taylor Swift, I'm rooting once again for the family favorite team.  It's probably too much to hope for two Super Bowl wins in a row, but it's happened before.  Maybe it'll happen again this year. Pigskin pride, RagingMoon1987

Awww, nuts!

Image
It's National Peanut Butter Day!  Shop is HandmadebyRileyRose . My family has to be extremely careful about peanuts nowadays, because my brother-in-law has a peanut allergy.  But when he's not around my mom and I love peanuts and peanut butter sandwiches.  Oh, and the occasional Butterfinger bar.  I freaking love those.  Truth be told I love anything that's got peanut butter in it. I knew a kid that DIDN'T like peanut butter, though.  He was and still is our preacher's son, and when he was little he couldn't stand peanut butter.  I don't know why, never did find out why, but he didn't care for the stuff.  Admittedly it can get cloying after awhile.  But I never thought to ask him why, and he never said, and it wasn't my business anyway.  I just thought it was kinda funny, because most kids love peanut butter. Of course the debate still rages:  creamy or crunchy peanut butter.  I like both, but if you aimed a gun at my chest and...

Penguins!

Image
Penguin Day, y'all!  And I don't know about y'all, but I love me some penguins!  Etsy shop is Tutu2CuteShop . When I was a little kid I wanted more than anything to be able to fly, and I did everything I could to learn how.  Of course I was NOT successful, and I greatly sympathized with the birds in my kiddie books that also did not fly.  Ostrich, emu, kiwi, and of course, penguin.  It wasn't until later that I learned that penguins CAN fly.  When they're underwater, their swimming looks exactly like flying, and as far as I'm concerned it is legit flying.  It surprised me how penguins are so awkward on land, but in the water they're like fish.  Doesn't hurt that they're cute as all getout. Those are emperor penguins.  I personally am quite fond of chinstraps. The late, great Steve Irwin filmed one of his shows in Antarctica, and while he was there he encountered a large flock of chinstrap penguins.  Chinstraps are small penguins when ful...

Shopping season

Image
Yep, it's that time!  Granted, most of the shopping should be winding down since Christmas is literally just around the corner.  This bow is a repeat. I'm now convinced that no subject is too outlandish for a cheer bow.  If It and Doctor Who can be immortalized as cheer bows, I s'pose Amazon can be too. Truth be told, I've never bought from Amazon!  I do love to browse there, but I've never bought...unless the Fidgie Friend I got yesterday came from there.  I bought a couple'a Fidgie Friends off eBay, but Fairie Garden arrived in an Amazon shipper, and her return address was the local Amazon hub so I guess that's where the seller got her.  Oh yes, buying up stock and selling it at a ridiculously jacked-up price!  That's real nice...except I didn't buy Fairie for a ridiculously jacked-up price.  The seller listed the price that Wal-Mart lists, so I dunno. Yeah, I've bought myself Christmas gifts this year.  Not gonna lie.  I got two of '...

Holly berries and walnuts

Image
Today is Holly Day, but I don't have a holly bow so I went with the Nutcracker again, complete with my first initial (and my last, LOL).  I'm not a huge fan of holly anyway, not since our holly bush annihilated my balloons when I was a kid. I don't know the Etsy shop; this one was another gift.  It's already gotten a handful of compliments, though! My memories of holly aren't the greatest, but walnuts (which I presume are what nutcrackers smash) are another story.  My paternal grandmother had a black walnut tree in her backyard, and one of my favorite things to do was take a broom handle and wallop ripe walnuts off the tree.  I never touched them because black walnuts have a rind that both stains clothes and reeks, but I loved smacking them off the tree.  Grandpa would then gather them up in a sack, toss them in the road, and run over the sack with his truck a couple'a times to break up the rind.  I never saw him run over the sack, but I saw him gather them...
