Today is Joe Montana's birthday.  He's sixty-eight like Uncle Man-Child and Uncle From St. Louis.  My dad liked Joe Montana a lot when Joe was in his youth, so why not wear my Chiefs bow today? Football season is MONTHS away, but since when have I let that stop me? Interestingly, Joe Montana only spent one year with the Chiefs, and he was on the injured list much of the time.  For most of his NFL tenure Montana played for the 49ers, a team that I can take or leave.  I don't pay much attention to San Francisco unless they have an earthquake or a riot.  Anyway, Joe Montana's birthday is today, so happy birthday, Mr. Montana! Today is, among other holidays, Save a Spider Day.  I wore this one before last October, right after my birthday . One of my Failbook friends is a spider enthusiast, and she declared this bow her favorite in dramatic and hilarious fashion.  As I implied in October I have a love-hate relationship with spiders, and a full-tilt HATE-hate relationship with brown recluses.  But in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, if I run into any today I'll give 'em a free pass.  I know for a fact that there's a huge brownie living in Uncle Man-Child's laundry room, and whenever I see him he's booking it like he knows what I'll do if I catch him.  Since Uncle Man-Child doesn't have any pets I usually leave any spiders I run across alone. Oh yeah, it's World Kidney Day as well.  I suffer from mild kidney problems (stones), so a green ribbon would work too.  Hey, my spider bow is half-green!  I killed two birds with one (kidney) stone! The Chiefs NEVER did this well when my dad was alive! Yep, Kansas City is going to the Super Bowl for the second year running.  While everyone else is having a stroke over that bitch Taylor Swift, I'm rooting once again for the family favorite team.  It's probably too much to hope for two Super Bowl wins in a row, but it's happened before.  Maybe it'll happen again this year. This one is the first bow I wore for the blog.  Etsy shop is osewpretty . I can't sling a dead cat without hitting another Sarah, and the vast majority of the ones I've met have my middle name, Elizabeth.  I have met one lady named Sarah Magdalene, but I digress.  During my tweens I wanted to change my name to "Rebecca" or "Susannah," but ultimately I decided it wasn't worth the effort, and "Sarah Elizabeth" was fine. I did almost change my mind my second year of college, when there were THREE Sarah Elizabeths living on my floor.  When the RA called out my name I shrugged and said "Call me 'Tree Frog.'"  "Tree Frog" was a nickname I gave myself as a child, and I thought "why not?"  I was "Tree Frog" for a long time after that, and I'll STILL answer to it. Despite my childhood umbrage at being named something kinda plain, I thank God now that Mama and Daddy named my sister and me something sens...

Religious Freedom Day was yesterday, but I don't need much of an excuse to wear this bow.  It was a gift, so I don't know what/who the Etsy shop is, but I know it IS an Etsy bow. Thank God we still have the right to worship as we see fit in this country.  That may one day change, but right now I can worship how I wish without having to keep an eye half-open.  That sadly isn't true for a lot of the Jews in this world, even here in the U.S.  Oh sure, Jews have the right to assemble, but...now that I stop to think of it just about ALL of the main religions have had some sort of hate crime here in the U.S. over the past couple'a decades. Today is Holly Day, but I don't have a holly bow so I went with the Nutcracker again, complete with my first initial (and my last, LOL).  I'm not a huge fan of holly anyway, not since our holly bush annihilated my balloons when I was a kid. I don't know the Etsy shop; this one was another gift.  It's already gotten a handful of compliments, though! My memories of holly aren't the greatest, but walnuts (which I presume are what nutcrackers smash) are another story.  My paternal grandmother had a black walnut tree in her backyard, and one of my favorite things to do was take a broom handle and wallop ripe walnuts off the tree.  I never touched them because black walnuts have a rind that both stains clothes and reeks, but I loved smacking them off the tree.  Grandpa would then gather them up in a sack, toss them in the road, and run over the sack with his truck a couple'a times to break up the rind.  I never saw him run over the sack, but I saw him gather them...

If I had enuff bows I'd be sporting Hanukkah-themed stuff during the duration of the holiday, but I don't.  Ergo, this bow. One of my first truly nice bows, this one was given to me by my mother on my thirty-third birthday.  It has my initials on it, but it also has characters from The Nutcracker on it.  Clara/Marie is present, as are the Nutcracker and the Mouse King.  I've heard the lead character called both "Clara" and "Marie" during my life, but "Clara" is the name I hear more often.  Indeed, the only one I've heard using the name "Marie" was Shari Lewis.  But I won't heap too much hate on Shari and Lamb Chop, because they were the ones who taught me about The Nutcracker in the first place.  Yep, my sister and I were Lamb Chop fans growing up!  We had several of the cassette tapes, and one of them discussed  The Nutcracker .  Uncle from St. Louis pointed out that in terms of ventriloquism Shari's technique was one o...

Today is Minnie Mouse's birthday.  Etsy shop is ThreeDoesBows . Minnie is the original Queen of the Bow, and she didn't even start wearing a hair bow until the 1940s, with the end of the pie-eyed era.  Before then she was a flapper type , with patched bloomers, ridiculously big shoes, and sometimes a hat.  I'm not really sure when the red polka-dotted dress and bow became her thing, but by the time I was around that was how I knew Minnie the best.  One of my college friends painted her nails red with white polka dots because she too associate the pattern with our beloved rodent girl, and I had another friend (a teacher and thus an older woman than me) who often wore a red dress with white polka dots to church.  She also had Minnie on her watch, and I loved that because it made me think of my dad (he had a watch with Daffy Duck on it).  That teacher didn't live to be very old; she sadly died of ALS when I was in college.  Her grave marker has a silhouet...

Today is the anniversary of the "Heidi Bowl."  I love football anyway, and it's football season (the Titans aren't doing so well), so I'm wearing a football skin bow.  Etsy shop is kraftyelves , the same bunch that brought y'all my baseball skin bow . Oh, the Heidi Bowl.  For the uninitiated, the Heidi Bowl was a regular old NFL football game between the Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets.  In 1968 the Raiders and the Jets had a rivalry that equaled those between Auburn and Alabama or between the Cardinals and the Cubs.  The resulting game was a donniebrook that ran long in its three-hour time slot.  That was a problem because NBC, who was airing the game, had Heidi scheduled to start at 7 P.M. sharp, and they'd promised Timex (sponsoring the flick) that there would be no delays .  Long story short, NBC cut the game with the Jets ahead and one minute, one second left on the clock.  While football fans were being forced to watch a dumb movie a...

Recently life was a little bit crazy for one of the library's patrons, and while we were chatting with him he made some sort of remark about all of us being a little or a lot nuts.  That got me to thinkin' about my favorite lines from Alice in Wonderland, and that led me to order this bow.  Etsy shop is CherryBlossomsBows . The Cheshire Cat utters this line to Alice at the end of the pair's first meeting .  LOL, I always liked the scene because it had a double meaning, and also because I appreciated the Cat's honesty.  Truthfully we probably all are not there to a certain extent.  I wholeheartedly embrace my own insanity. I talk a lot about Disney on this blog even though I'm not a hardcore, live-strong, die-hard fan.  Alice in Wonderland is one of the movies I grew up with from the word "go," along with Bambi and Lady and the Tramp .  I liked the flick as a child due to the colors and the all-around nonsense of it all, but my sister wasn't a fan....

Today is National M&M's Day, and I had a whole post planned, but I couldn't find the bow!  So y'all are getting something a little more holiday-appropriate. My family loves Charlie Brown.  The Halloween and Christmas specials were events that we'd plan our days around, since at the time we didn't have 'em on VHS.  Yes, I'm VHS old, LOL.  But yeah, I lived for both programs.  Snoopy usually stole the show, and indeed I spent both programs laughing at the bipedal beagle's antics.  I especially love the piano scene from Great Pumpkin , where Snoopy reacts appropriately to the upbeat and melancholy tunes Schroder is playing.  Then there's " I got a rock ," which is a catchphrase among my online friends.  Mama always wondered why Charlie Brown didn't just throw the rock at the offending house, LOL again. My bow today has something that I was afraid of and fascinated by for a looooooong time.  This one made its debut on April 11th, but I'm only now wearing it.  I used to hate spiders.  Etsy shop is SweetAngelDreamBows . My bow today is one of my first ones, given to me on my thirty-second birthday by who else but my mama. It's got a Christian theme, and while I'll never claim to be a good Christian, I'll still claim Christ as my Lord and Savior any day.  And that's all I'm gonna say today. INRI, RagingMoon1987

I was never big on coloring books when I was a little kid, preferring instead to freehand my drawings and let imagination take over.  But for a short while during the height of the JoJo Bow craze there were black and white bows that came with two markers for coloring in, and that's what I've got today. I've got another one like this somewhere with two different markers, so I predict another long weekend coloring in tiny outlines is in my future.  LOL, one weekend last spring Uncle From St. Louis was home for a visit.  It was a lengthy weekend, and I spent most of it guffawing at his stories and coloring in images of unicorns and stars and hearts and bows.  It was...surprisingly relaxing!  I'd put it down thinking that I wanted a break, and then five minutes later I was back to coloring.  The details are small, so my coloring isn't precise, but I did pretty well.  I love the unicorns.  They have such cute faces! I'm not the artist that my sister is...

I've shown this one before, but this is the first time I've worn it.   Etsy shop is  beautifulChaos101 .  They specialize in stuff that glows under blacklight, for laser tag, moon golf, blacklight bowling, or just for the heckuvit.  I love things that glow in the dark or under blacklight, and this bow fills that void .   I'm not really sure what else to say, other than that this bow is extremely comfortable.  It has a double loop of elastic and sometimes those bows are NOT comfortable, but this one is.  I suppose I could also ramble on about the Doors and how hot Jim Morrison was, but...well, everyone knows that! Seriously, when I saw these boxes on the hood of my car I thought "These two have to be a mile wide." The brown box is a seven-inch cube... ...while the flat box is nine and a half inches across. I do have two bows that are nine inches across (the season isn't right for them yet), but when I opened the flat box I found that the bow is a manageable size.  It's got a sequined spider and web on it, perfect for Halloween. The Etsy shop that provided this bow is called SweetAngelDreamBows , and they do tumblers, plates, and phone covers in addition to blingy cheer bows.  I probably won't wear this one until Halloween, but it's a nice bow with substantial weight.  The sequins are ON THERE, by the way, unlike the sequins on some of my dolls' dresses.  The green material reminds me a little of snakeskin up close, even though it doesn't look much like snakeskin.  Indeed, one of my fellow dolly bloggers compared a fabric like this to squid skin , and cephalopod ...

None other than my late father's favorite team! Win or lose, Daddy loved the Kansas City Chiefs...and unfortunately, while he was alive the Chiefs usually lost.  I don't know why Daddy picked them as his favorite team, but he did, and when Daddy loved something, his love was both enthusiastic and contagious.  The Chiefs are not my absolute favorite team (that title goes to the Tennessee Titans), but they'll always be special.  As for the bow, Mama custom-ordered that for me shortly before the Super Bowl, and I planned to wear it even if they lost.  Sadly I do not know the name of the Etsy store, but it can't be too hard to figure out.
