The Bow Belle

Passover actually began yesterday, but as y'all know I'm off on Monday's.  Also as y'all know, I love Jewish holidays.  This little bow came from ClamsAndaHamDog .  Clams is sadly closed now, but the link isn't dead yet so I sometimes check on them to see if they've opened back up.  Sometimes Etsy shops do that. Last Hanukkah I talked about a group of friends I've got that celebrate Hanukkah instead of Christmas.  Well!  It turns out that Passover is celebrated here in the sticks too!  My mother taught for a few years at a local private Catholic school, and on the first day of Passover they'd have a seder.  It was...mostly the same as the Jewish seder.  We didn't sit in a reclining position the way some practitioners do, but the youngest children asked the required questions, and we ate the necessary things, horseradish and all.  Thank God, the Karpas that we ate was parsley; if it had been celery I'd have barfed.  I hate celery, a...

A fabric that I love but rarely get to wear.  Now I get a chance. This one came from VeryShine , and is the bow that was accompanied by the button I wore yesterday.  I always like it when Etsy sellers include little freebies; ball-jointed doll companies often do that too, but I get why THEY do it.  My cheapest ball-jointed doll cost a hundred thirty bucks, and she came with a free pair of shoes and some candy for me.  I don't know this for certain, but I figure the company's mindset might be "These folks are spending a ton of money, let's include a nice little incentive to make them happy and maybe draw 'em in again."  Either that or they do it just for the helluvit, like I did when a friend of mine commissioned a Barbie doll dress.  She insisted on paying me, so I threw in a necklace to say "thanks."  Either way I like it when Etsy companies do this. Truth be told, the bow doesn't have anything to do with the gum.  But it's big, it's red, and it's got polka dots! The Etsy shop is SpaceCatSupplyCo .  Like yesterday's bow, this one was inspired by the brief Disney emphasis that was in last year's reading program.  This one was directly inspired by the one and only Minnie Mouse, who always wears a hair bow.  Oops, lemme clarify:  she almost always wears a POLKA DOT hair bow!  Some artwork exists where Minnie is wearing a solid bow, and during the pie-eyed era she wore a hat instead .  In the early short " Plane Crazy " she appears to have worn  no headgear at all , and instead of a full dress she just wore a skirt...and a pair of bloomers that ended up saving her life.  By contrast, Mickey (who apparently is a horrid pilot) has changed very little since the twenties; he's always rocked red shorts and yellow shoes, and nothing else except for special occasions.  Hey, if it ain't broke, d...
