The day before...

Image
Yep, tomorrow's the day!  July 3rd means my fanciest patriotic bow. When I was a kid July 3rd was like the night before Christmas.  As I said last year we ALWAYS did something fun for the 4th.  Mama made homemade ice cream one year.  Another year it was a feast of bratwurst and hot dogs.  Still another year we adopted a stray kitten.  And yet another year we spent the whole day in the pool and got sunburned beyond belief.  LOL, that was the year that I learned how apple cider vinegar would help take the sting out of sunburns.  I mean, my sister and I are fair anyway, and we got TOASTED that day.  That night as Mama was putting us to bed she brought us a bottle of apple cider vinegar and wanted to put it on our burns...but Sister refused it.  She didn't want to stink, and hell with the pain, apparently.  I, on the other hand, am not a huge fan of pain and don't mind the smell of vinegar, so I happily took the treatment and felt a lot...

Hot, hot heat

Time to batten down the hatches!  Summer is here, and it's an El Nino summer!  Last summer was horrendous, but since El Nino is hanging around I figure this summer will REALLY be a bitch.  Anyway, summer for me means lemonade...heck, anytime means lemonade.  Etsy shop is the defunct AdoraBowsStore. Not much to say today.  I'm in significant pain due to arthritis, and that's left me depressed, but other than that, nothing. Love, RagingMoon1987

Boogity, boogity, boogity!!!

Image
For reasons I don't know, the third Friday in May is NASCAR Day.  For that I'm wearing a fitting JoJo Bow.  Specifically, Club Bow #23. NASCAR was the sport of the hour when I was growing up.  Daddy was a live-strong, die-hard Dale Earnhardt fan, while I cheered on Mark Martin and Kevin Harvick.  February 18th, 2001 was a dark day indeed for the family, as that was the day Dale Earnhardt got killed.  Head-on crashes into the walls of those tracks were always a big deal, and...well, that particular crash was a VERY big deal.  The funny thing is, Earnhardt's crash looked tame compared to this 1995 smashup done by Ken Schrader , or the 1969 crash that involved Don MacTavish.  Ken Schrader walked away from his crash smiling and without a scratch, while Don MacTavish died.  I remember Schrader's accident well; I was watching TV with Daddy because a severe thunderstorm was moving in and I wanted to monitor it.  Schrader caught too much air, and ov...

Stars and rain

Image
Today is yet another crap shoot day.  I always like those, 'cause it means I can wear whatever the eff I want.  I chose this bow, which I last wore in September . It's dark and rainy today, with thunderstorms predicted for this afternoon and particularly tomorrow.  Our local meteorologists are saying my area may get a dose of what northwestern Oklahoma got last night.  The Lord's will be done, I say. Love, RagingMoon1987

Return of another favorite

Image
Crap shoot day equals bow picked at random.  This one hasn't seen the light of day since last July ! It's kinda hard to go wrong with a bow that has this many colors on it.  Plus, this one is one that Mama surprised me with, so it's extra special.  Etsy shop is the defunct AdoraBowsStore. As doldrumy as the weather has been lately something bright is pretty fitting.  Monday was the only nice day we had this week, which suited me just fine since that was Eclipse Day.  Since then it's been a long void of clouds, wind, and rain, but that suits me just fine too because I love clouds and rain. That's all, y'all!  Not much to say today! Love, RagingMoon1987

Unicorn Day has come again

Image
Y'all know what it means when it's Unicorn Day! Every new wave of JoJo Bows I see has at least one bow spangled with either unicorns, rainbows, or hearts.  Or stars; she likes those too.  NBD, I s'pose, for I too like unicorns, rainbows, hearts, and stars. As to the eclipse yesterday, the only way I can describe it was "spectacular."  I met some folks with the right equipment and had a wonderful experience.  The full story can be found on my doll blog . Hugs and unicorns,  RagingMoon1987

Lavender's blue

Image
I never did understand where the author of that nursery rhyme got the idea that lavender is blue.  Lavender is...well, lavender!  It made for a helluva song , though.  Despite the beauty of the color I rarely see lavender hair bows, so when I saw this dandy I snapped it up. Lavender, daisies, and BUTTERFLIES!!!  What's not to like? No, I went through my boxes during the weekend, and most of the lavender bows I've got are actually lavender mixed with other colors (examples here and here ).  I also have my pom pom bow, which I trot out when I'm missing my sister a lot (posts here and here ).  Most of my other purple bows are deep purple, like the band .  Lavender is not a common color in my bow box though, and that's a shame because I love lavender.  Lavender love, RagingMoon1987

Sweet Georgia Brown

Image
Yeah, yeah, I know "Sweet Georgia Brown" is the Harlem Globetrotters' anthem (I love the Globetrotters), but I tend to associate it with March Madness too.  Go figure.  Anyway, March 19th is a special day in my family.  Uncle From St. Louis has a birthday that day (as does his twin, Uncle Man-Child), and for some reason Mama always has to bring up the swallows in that stupid song.  In recent years the swallows HAVEN'T returned en masse to Capistrano, but I digress.  This year March 19th is special for another reason, as it's the first day of March Madness.  And when you're me, that means a hair bow.  This is Bow #17, one of JoJo Siwa's bow club bows.  It came with some other odds and ends that I'll admit to wearing. I'm only now learning that these club bows have numbers on their little silver medallions.  All JoJo Bows come with these silver thingies sewn on, but the club bows are numbered. A cursory glance at Bow #8 revealed that it too is...

Do NOT pinch me

Image
Yeah, yeah, I know St. Pat's is tomorrow.  But just the same I'm wearing a green hair bow, therefore I am exempt from pinching. Seriously, I slapped a guy in high school for pinching me one too many times.  It WAS St. Pat's and I was NOT wearing green, and if my friend had left it at one pinch I'd have been fine.  But he kept wanting to do it!  So after about the fifth pinch I popped him.  Not hard, I mean.  Just hard enuff that I got my point across, and we stayed friends afterwards.  But to quote Daffy Duck, I can't stand pain.  It hurts me! Speaking of popping stuff, since today is Saturday I look forward to popping a beer tonight.  I don't drink on weeknights since I take a pill to help me sleep, but if I'm gonna be off the next day I'll crack open a bottle of Rolling Rock or something like that.  Tonight's the perfect night for that. Bottoms up and all that stuff, RagingMoon198

Arachnophobia

Image
Today is, among other holidays, Save a Spider Day.  I wore this one before last October, right after my birthday . One of my Failbook friends is a spider enthusiast, and she declared this bow her favorite in dramatic and hilarious fashion.  As I implied in October I have a love-hate relationship with spiders, and a full-tilt HATE-hate relationship with brown recluses.  But in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, if I run into any today I'll give 'em a free pass.  I know for a fact that there's a huge brownie living in Uncle Man-Child's laundry room, and whenever I see him he's booking it like he knows what I'll do if I catch him.  Since Uncle Man-Child doesn't have any pets I usually leave any spiders I run across alone. Oh yeah, it's World Kidney Day as well.  I suffer from mild kidney problems (stones), so a green ribbon would work too.  Hey, my spider bow is half-green!  I killed two birds with one (kidney) stone! Spidery love, RagingMoon198...

Like a rhinestone...rainbow?

Image
<sings>  Like a rhinestone rainbow...yeah, that flows pretty well, but I think I'll stick to " cowboy ."  As to my bow, today it has a rainbow and rhinestones on it. Rainbows seem to be ubiquitous to St. Pat's Day just like shamrocks do, and I never need an excuse to wear a rainbow, so...so there, I guess.  And boy howdy, have I needed rainbows in my life lately.  The utility bills were outrageous this time around, and Mama ended up owing on her taxes, so life hasn't been the most beautiful lately.  It could be worse, though; a couple of my buddies did brief stents in jail this past month, and for niggling little things.  As long as my loved ones and I aren't in jail, in the hospital, or in the morgue then I've not got a lot to complain about. That said, I haven't seen a decent rainbow in quite a spell!  Good things come to those who wait, I s'pose. Rainbows and lollipops, RagingMoon1987

Star-spangled ice cream

Image
At the behest of my mother I selected this bow today, one with rainbow stars and an ice cream motif in the center. I don't know why Mama likes this particular bow, but she does.  It's probably the colors, LOL.  Or maybe she remembers that I liked stars when I was in high school.  Everyone who knew me back then knew that I loved stars, especially shooting stars. At the time I liked ice cream too.  I still do, but back then I couldn't get enuff of the stuff.  Back during my teenage years our local Sonic was halfway decent (now the service sucks), and any celebration was call for ice cream of some sort.  My sister...I actually don't remember if my sister liked ice cream or not!  We were always so different!  But I loved ice cream.  I still do, but if I eat a lot of it at one time I get sick to my stomach. Frosty love, RagingMoon1987

More of the same

Image
Yet another unicorn bow, and an uber-sparkly one at that! In truth these springlike colors have been perfect for the kind of weather the center of the country has been having.  As of writing it's already fifty-two degrees Fahrenheit, and it's predicted to get warmer.  Then as always the weather's gonna change; it's supposed to rain all weekend.  Oh well, I like rain. Love, RagingMoon1987

Girly!

Image
Yep, you can't get more stereotypically girly than this one! Pink, purple, and a teensy bit of blue, plus rhinestones and a light-up element.  This bow is heavy due to said lighting mech, and the pairing with the overly feminine colors means that it's not a favorite of mine.  But given the closeness of Valentine's Day I may as well get some mileage out of it. My favorite and unfavorite bows make me think of Tsarina Alexandra.  The last tsarina was the one with the Faberge eggs, and she had one that she...didn't care much for.  That one was the Coronation Egg , one of the prettier ones.  Tsarina Alexandra apparently associated that egg with the stampede that occurred during her husband's coronation, referred to as the Khodynka tragedy .  The Dowager Empress, Maria, also had a favorite and an unfavorite egg, and like her daughter-in-law she associated her unfavorite egg with bad memories.  That one was the Memory of Azov Egg .  The Order of St. Geor...

It's...THAT time again

Image
Yeah, I've been wearing heart bows for a few days now, but for me the season of valentines doesn't begin until today.  Being single means that the first two weeks of February are a lonely affair for me, but I can still wear cute hair bows.  This one is your typical JoJo Bow, and it's got her doggie BowBow on it. Yum, pink and red reminds me of chocolate-covered cherries!  Those only seem to come out around Valentine's Day, much to my chagrin.  I could easily eat my weight in those things...before they make me throw up, that is.  Too much chocolate can do that.  In my case too much chocolate will give me the trots before it'll make me throw up, but neither one is fun.  Alas, I will not be indulging in chocolate-covered cherries this year.  I had some troubling chest pains on January twenty-third, and I don't want to die before I reach forty so I've dropped the sweets and the junk food for the most part.  It's a good thing I love raw vegetables...

A sweet heart

Image
A sweet heart for a sweetheart, though in truth I'm about as sweet as a Sour Patch Kid. Sour Patch Kids never were my favorite candy.  My sister likes her candy as sour as humanly possible, but I prefer mine fruity or chocolatey.  Now doughnuts...well, if you listen to Cookie Monster doughnuts aren't as good as cookies, but I love me a big fat glazed doughnut.  I almost NEVER see 'em in the shape of a heart, but I have seen them shaped like stars or flowers.  Thus I reckon that a heart would be small potatoes. If y'all wish to know my preference on baked goods...well, I like anything with cream cheese in it a lot, LOL.  I'm not terribly picky, though.  Sometimes one just wants a plain old doughnut.  I especially like those little powdered ones that folks sometimes eat for breakfast. Not in much of a mood

Image
I haven't been in too bright and shiny of a mood lately, so I picked a bow that might lift my spirits a bit.  This one is another gift from my mama. Today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week, before the rain moves in and temperatures fall like Aeromexico Flight 498 .  I'm praying it won't get as cold as they say it will, but so far the forecast is holding true.  Oh well, that's winter, and we've got three more weeks until Groundhog Day so we may have at least nine more weeks of winter. Nine weeks...that's long enuff for the average mama cat to gestate a litter of kittens.  When I was a little kid and our cat was pregnant that nine weeks felt like an eternity.  Thank God, nothing ever went seriously wrong until I was an adult and adopted an abandoned pregnant cat.  That was...oh, that was bad!  I still have the mama, though!  She's awesome. I've bloviated enuff. Cheers, RagingMoon1987

The shortest day

Image
The days are short The sun a spark Hung thin between The dark and the dark --John Updike, " January " I know January is still a couple'a weeks away, but with it being the winter solstice I felt it fitting.  To commemorate I present another Frozen bow. As winters go this one has been a mild one so far, but then again it's just getting started!  In December of 2021 it never did get truly cold, and we had hail and tornadoes .  Then last December one of Mama's pipes froze and exploded, so the month truly is a mixed bag for the Bootheel.  Usually it's predictable, but in recent years, not so much.  January is fast becoming much of the same; usually it's windy and cold, but in the past the month has also brought my neck of the woods tornadoes galore.  As much as I hate winter I'd prefer for this part of the year to be more...well, wintry!  March and April can have the tornadoes, thank you! But then again I'd prefer not to have snow up to my neck either...

Christmas plaid

Image
Like yesterday's candy cane bow, I found this one waaaaaaay earlier than I should have. I did say at the beginning of fall that I wanted more plaid bows, and now I've got another one!  I also like the insignia in the middle; I'm fond of shaker bows.  I don't have too many, but I like 'em. I must say that like Thanksgiving I am NOT looking forward to this Christmas.  No sister, no brother-in-law, no Uncle From St. Louis, and likely no exciting presents.  Though in response to that last bit, all I want is a new floor lamp.  My old one broke, sad face.  Even the temperature outside doesn't feel like Christmas; yesterday it hit sixty-two degrees.  It's supposed to cool down a bit early next week, but then it'll warm up again and rain like piss out of a boot.  Not very Decemberish, but then I positively hate it when it's cold! I hope y'all are having fun so far!  Likely by now the kiddies are out of school and you're battening down the hatches for...

Getting and giving

Image
Today is Gingerbread Decorating Day, but I don't have a bow with gingerbread men on it!  So I selected something seasonal at random. Ironic, rather, especially since I complain about Christmas being so commercial.  What can I say, I'm a materialistic little dame.  I like stuff.  This Christmas I'm hoping for a new floor lamp since mine died last spring.  I'd also like some socks, since one can never have too many pairs of socks.  I also am not a frequent flyer with Amazon.  I just thought the bow was cute. That's about all I have to say today, since I don't really have anyone to buy for and since I'm not a kid myself. Love, RagingMoon1987
